Abstract

Abstract : The purpose of this study is to find out the effectiveness of the first grade students’ ability of SMAN 12 Pekanbaru in writing narrative texts.The participants were 75 students. The data were collected using writing test. The research finding indicated that the application of using animation filmas a media could improve students’ writing ability. The result of pre-test showedthat the mean score of the students in experiment class was 47,68 and in control class was 45,08. The result of post-test showed that the mean score of the students in experiment class was 62,86 and in control class was 54,86.From the t obs result, it can be seen that the experiment class get score (23) and the control class (10,74). After obtaining the standard deviation both of experimental and control group, the standard error can be calculated. The standard error was 1,121 and the t table was 7,13.The data analysis technique was show whether the mean different was significant (t obs> t table). From the research finding, it can be concluded that using animation film can motivate students to engage in language learning.Thus, based on the above explanation, the writer concludes that using animation film is effective in improving students ability in writing narrative text.Keywords: Animation Film, Writing, Narrative Texts.

Abstract

Abstract: The purpose of this study is to find students ability of SMAN 2 Pekanbaru in using question tags. This research focuses in grammar, especially for question tag in simple present tense with “be”, simple past tense with “be”, simple present tense with verb, simple past tense with verb, and modal auxiliaries.The instrument used by the writer to collect the data for this study isdrama script and full of incomplete dialogues. Try out was conducted to check validity and reliability of the test. There were 31 students as samples from XI science 1 of the second year students of SMAN 2 Pekanbaru. Based on the research finding, it can be found: first, the ability of the students in using question tags is infair ability level.Second, the students’ scores in using question tags in simple present tense with “be” is 57,5, simple past tense with “be” is 66,1 , simple present tense with verb is 57,5, simple past tense with verb is 67,1, and modal auxiliaries is 58,6. As a result,the highest score obtained by the students in identifying question tags in simple past with “verb”. It is 67,1 that falls into fair ability level, andthe lowest score that the students get is in identifying question tags in simple present tense with “verb”. It is 57,5 which falls into poor ability level. Keywords:Ability, Using, Question tags.

Abstract

Abstract: The aimof this research was to know whether or not Think-Pair-Share technique could improve students’ ability in writing recount texts and how it could improve the ability. Classroom action research was conducted in two cycles to 34 students of X-2Class of SMAN 03 Pekanbaru as the participant of this research. The data were collected through written test, observation sheet, and field note. This research findings found that Think-Pair-Share technique could improve the students’ ability in writing recount texts. Students’ mean score improved from 54.46 in pre-test to 65.14 in post-test 1, and to 77.64 in post-test 2. It is in line with the activeness of students that improved from 46.08% in cycle 1 to 86.26% in cycle 2. Think-Pair-Share technique helped students in writing the recount texts. It analyzes each part of generic structure of recount text. Think-Pair-Share strategy could motivate the students during teaching and learning process. This research recommended that teachers to use Think-Pair-Share to find out the different effect after using this cooperative learning technique than a conventional technique.
