Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between English reading habits, intrapersonal intelligence, and students’ reading comprehension ability. A quantitative approach with a descriptive correlational design was employed. The participants consisted of 44 fourth-semester students of the English Department at IAIN Kerinci selected through total sampling. Data on English reading habits and intrapersonal intelligence were gathered using questionnaires, while a reading comprehension test measured students’ reading performance. The data were analyzed using Pearson Product Moment correlation and multiple linear regression. The findings revealed a very strong and significant correlation between English reading habits and reading comprehension (r = 0.867, p < 0.05). Intrapersonal intelligence also showed a fair and significant correlation with reading comprehension (r = 0.576, p < 0.05). Simultaneously, English reading habits and intrapersonal intelligence demonstrated a very strong and significant combined relationship with reading comprehension (R = 0.868). The adjusted R² of 0.741 indicates that both predictors contributed 74.1% to the variance in reading comprehension. Regression analysis further showed that English reading habits significantly predicted reading comprehension, whereas intrapersonal intelligence did not.

Abstract

This study explores how AI TTS relates to students’ confidence in English pronunciation among English as a Foreign Language (EFL) learners in Indonesia. Previous studies examined TTS perception and pronunciation quality, but none linked AI-TTS use with learners’ confidence, especially in Indonesia. This research used a quantitative correlational design and involved 38 students from an English language education program. Data were collected using a questionnaire measure of AI TTS use and pronunciation confidence. The results indicate that students have positive perceptions of AI TTS and its role in supporting pronunciation confidence. The two variables have a positive and statistically significant correlation, according to Pearson's Product-Moment correlation Test (r = 0.850, p 0.05). Put differently, students with increased interaction with AI TTS tend to feel greater comfortable pronouncing English words. These results also imply that AI TTS can assist the growth of self-confidence, promote autonomous learning, and lessen fear.

Abstract

This study investigates English Education students’ perceptions of the use and potential abuse of Perplexity, an AI-based platform, in completing academic assignments. Employing a quantitative survey design, the study used a self-administered questionnaire consisting of 12 items measured using a five-point Likert scale. Data were obtained from 34 students at an Islamic Institute in Jambi Province, Indonesia. The instrument was validated by experts and tested for reliability using KMO, Bartlett’s Test, EFA, and Cronbach’s Alpha. The results indicate that students exhibit a strong awareness of ethical and academic implications in using Perplexity AI. Most participants acknowledged that while the tool enhances learning efficiency, excessive reliance may hinder creativity, critical thinking, and academic honesty. Students perceived Perplexity as both beneficial and potentially problematic if misused. The study underscores the need for Islamic higher education institutions to develop comprehensive AI ethics guidelines, integrate digital literacy and moral instruction into curricula, and promote responsible, value-based AI use that aligns technological advancement with academic integrity.

Abstract

Background: The emergence of Generation Z has significantly transformed English language classrooms by introducing learning preferences shaped by digital immersion, rapid information access, and interactive communication environments. These characteristics challenge conventional teacher centered pedagogy and create a complex tension between learning engagement and digital distraction in secondary education settings. Aims: This study examines how English teachers adapt their pedagogical practices to engage Generation Z learners while simultaneously managing the challenges of digital distraction within secondary school classrooms. Methods: A qualitative descriptive design was employed. Data were collected through semi structured interviews, classroom observations, and instructional document analysis involving English teachers who regularly teach digitally oriented learners. The collected data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify recurring patterns of instructional challenges and adaptive pedagogical strategies. Results: The findings indicate that multimedia materials, collaborative learning tasks, and technology integrated activities increase student participation, motivation, and classroom interaction. Nevertheless, teachers continue to encounter persistent difficulties in maintaining sustained student attention, controlling off task digital behavior, and ensuring that technological tools remain aligned with pedagogical objectives. Conclusion: The study demonstrates that effective instruction for Generation Z learners requires adaptive pedagogy that integrates digital technology with learner centered instructional design, structured interaction, and guided participation. Teachers must strategically transform digital engagement into productive learning opportunities rather than uncontrolled technological use. Strengthening teachers’ digital pedagogical competence and providing institutional support are therefore essential to ensure that technology enriched classrooms promote sustained engagement, meaningful communication, and deeper language learning outcomes.
