Abstract

Abstract: Residential buildings play a vital role in daily human life as spaces for rest and personal development. However, the trend of mass housing development with uniform types and designs often overlooks environmental considerations. In fact, in Indonesia’s humid tropical climate—characterized by warm temperatures, high humidity, and low wind speeds—residential houses must be carefully designed to ensure thermal comfort for occupants. One key factor is the performance of natural ventilation, which ensures adequate air exchange within the building. This study adopts manual measurement techniques and computer simulations using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to assess the natural ventilation performance of a residential building in a humid tropical climate, with the Heinz Frick House in Semarang as the case study. Three aspects of natural ventilation performance are examined: (i) comparison between opening dimensions and façade area based on applicable standards; (ii) analysis of indoor airflow velocity in relation to comfort thresholds; and (iii) spatial distribution of airflow to identify comfort zones. The results show that the natural ventilation performance of the Heinz Frick House is relatively good. Nevertheless, several design adjustments, particularly regarding building openings, are necessary to further optimize ventilation performance. Abstract

This community service activity is carried out by identifying and inventorying problems with sub-district officials, discussing alternative solutions to problem-solving until the solution is selected, and then making pre-designed drawings, which are then carried out by presenting the results and submitting planning documents. After the pre-design drawings have been discussed and mutually agreed upon, a final renovation design and the required budget plan are created. The results of this Community Service are a Renovation Planning Document for the Petompon Sub-district Hall, which will guide government institutions in building and developing the building.

Abstract

The development and construction of Semarang City is increasing with many investors putting in capital or shares in various fields. Various approaches are taken to attract investors and tourists to Semarang City, one of which is by organizing MICE events. Semarang City is one of the 16 cities in Indonesia that has become a MICE destination. However, convention hotel accommodation in one region is still not evenly distributed and there is currently no venue that can accommodate 5,000 people. Therefore, planning and designing a convention hotel in Semarang City is a suitable solution to this problem. The biophilic design approach was considered as an answer to the problem of how hotels contribute to the largest energy use. Therefore, it is necessary to plan and design a convention hotel with a biophilic design concept that fulfills technical aspects, environmentally friendly, and positively impacts human health. This approach prioritizes a building concept that presents the connectivity of residents to the natural environment through the arrangement of interior spaces and landscaping. The design of Convention Hotel with biophilic design approach in Semarang City is used data in the form of primary and secondary data which is then analyzed and processed in functional, contextual, technical, performance, and architectural approaches. By analyzing and processing the data, recommendations and design solutions related to the Convention Hotel with a biophilic design approach in Semarang City will be obtained to support MICE events held in Semarang City.

Abstract

The development of a city is influenced by local factors such as population size, socio-economic aspects, and culture. Collaboration between the government, stakeholders, and the community is essential to ensure sustainable urban growth. The construction of modern shopping centers has significant impacts, including boosting the local economy, increasing residents' income, promoting tourism, and enhancing infrastructure. Although Bengkayang Regency holds great economic potential, it currently lacks a modern shopping center. Therefore, building a modern shopping plaza is crucial to support economic growth and improve the well-being of the local community. The goal of designing the shopping plaza is to accommodate the daily needs, entertainment, and lifestyle of Bengkayang Regency's residents with a modern design that blends seamlessly with nature. The proposed site is located in Sebopet Village, Bengkayang District, Bengkayang Regency, West Kalimantan. The site is situated near the Bengkayang traditional market and government center but not too close to residential areas. To achieve these objectives, various methods are applied, including site surveys, literature reviews, and precedent studies of shopping centers. The design incorporates the principles of organic architecture, aiming to create environmentally friendly spaces that harmonize with nature. Key elements of the organic architecture approach include Building as Nature, Form Follows Flow, Of the People, Of the Materials, Youthful and Unexpected, and Living Music. With the application of these principles, the shopping center is expected to serve as a comprehensive space that provides both physical and non-physical benefits, while also contributing to local economic development.

Abstract

The multi-purpose community hall is a crucial facility that fosters community activities, cultural engagement, and public services. The Petompon Sub-district Hall in Semarang requires a redesign to enhance its functionality, accessibility, and adaptability. This study presents a comprehensive approach to redesigning the hall, focusing on spatial optimization, adaptive reuse, material updates, and user-centered design principles. The results highlight the importance of integrating modern architectural practices while preserving the building's structure to create a functional and inclusive community space.
