Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic that is spreading in Indonesia has affected economic growth, likewise banks sector. This study aims to determine the financial performance factors that are affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, both in Islamic and conventional banking which are included in the CBGB 2 category so that banks in Indonesia can anticipate it. This study uses the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) method with 6 financial performance variables in the period of January 2020 - September 2020, namely Capital Adequacy Ratio (%), Operating Expenses / Operating Income (%), Net Operation Margin (%), Landing on Deposits. Ratio (%), Short Term Mismatch (%) which are used as the independent variable, as well as Return on Assets which is used as the dependent variable. The results showed that the COVID-19 pandemic affected financial performance factors in the form of a Funding to Deposit Ratio of 35.21%; Short Term Mismatch of 26.92% and Net Operation Margin of 26.92% in Islamic banking. Whereas in conventional banking, Operating Expenses to Operating Income was 72.87% and the Capital Adequacy Ratio was 17.31%. This result is also in line with previous research where Islamic banking is more vulnerable than conventional banking in facing financial crises.

Abstract

Islamic banking fall on stagnation of financial performance in 2011 after successfully overcoming the financial crisis in 1998 and 2008, as though the Islamic banking sector had only run in place and had no clear purpose in developing the Islamic finance business. The purpose of this study is to clarify the variables that predispose financial performance, as well as predict the decrease and increase of financial performance. This study uses an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) model to find out the variables that affect financial performance and predict the decrease and increase of financial performance of sharia and conventional banking for the next five months. This research generates the variables which affect the financial performance of sharia banking and the prediction of financial performance over the next five months. The variables which affect the level of financial performance of sharia banking affected dominantly by inflation, although the results of conventional banking are the same but not too significant. This shows that sharia banking CBGB (Commercial Bank – Group of Business) 2 is very vulnerable with macroeconomic factors compared with conventional banking. ANN predictions produce an average of 80% success in predicting performance over the next five months.

Abstract

The imbalance between the number of Indonesian Muslims and the interest in saving in Islamic banks makes for a very interesting problem to study. This study aims to look at the factors that influence interest in saving in sharia banks, especially the Bank XYZ Branch. This research uses descriptive and quantitative methods. The tools used are distributing questionnaires to 43 Bank XYZ Branch customers with the likerts approach; besides that, this research uses two models, namely the ANN (artificial neural network) and partial least squares (PLS-SEM) models. The sample obtained from this study was 43 customers with various professions. The result of this research is that the religious knowledge factor is the factor that most influences interest in saving, with a value of 42.02%, followed by a promotional factor of 38.36%. While the product factor is not very influential with a value of only 19.61%, it is no different from the results of PLS-SEM, namely that religious knowledge and promotion are the most influential things significantly, while bank products do not affect saving in Islamic banks. The results of this study can help Islamic banking parties, especially the Bank XYZ Branch, map prospective customers who want to be prospected.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the nexus between macroeconomic conditions, Islamic banking performance, and MSME financing in Indonesia. Utilizing Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) and secondary data spanning January 2020 to June 2023, the research analyzes the direct effects of macroeconomic factors on both the financial performance of Islamic banks and the provision of financing to MSMEs.  The findings indicate a statistically significant positive relationship between macroeconomic stability and both Islamic banking financial performance and MSME financing. Conversely, the study reveals no statistically significant relationship between the financial performance of Islamic banks and the scale of MSME financing during the period. These results underscore the critical role of macroeconomic stability as a primary determinant of financial performance for both Islamic banks and MSMEs, particularly during periods of economic crisis.========================================================================================================ABSTRAK – Dari Krisis ke Stabilitas: Bagaimana Makroekonomi Membentuk Masa Depan Perbankan Syariah dan UMKM?

Abstract

The study aims to (1) find factors influence funding activities through formal and informal zakah institutions for Indonesian and Malaysian Muslims; (2) find the most significant factors that influence funding activities through formal and informal zakah institutions for Indonesian and Malaysian Muslims; (3) compare the generosity of Indonesian and Malaysian Muslim communities. 564 purposive sampling of Muslim communities in Malaysia and Indonesia participated in this study. Artificial Neural Network (ANN) analysis used as a data analysis tool. Two measurement tools used to examines variables, namely; Questionnaire on planned behavior and Questionnaire of trustworthiness. The result is that the most significant factor influencing charity behavior of Malaysian Muslim society is injunctive norms (42.12%). This is followed by descriptive norms (20.50%) and moral norms (14.49%). Whereas among the Indonesian Muslim community, the most significant factor driving people to give alms is the Injunctive Norm (51.55%).
