Abstract

The World Health Organization (WHO) in 2013 stated that anemia is one of the health problems worldwide, especially in developing countries. As many as 30% of the world's population is estimated to suffer from anemia, especially adolescents and pregnant women. The prevalence of anemia in adolescents in the world ranges from 40% -88%. The 2018 Riskesdas report stated that the prevalence of anemia in Indonesia is around 22.2% in the age group ≥ 15 years. The prevalence of anemia in urban adolescent girls in Jambi Province is 9.0%. Anemia causes a decrease in reproductive health function, inhibits the development of intelligence, motor skills and mental which results in decreased learning achievement. If adolescent girls suffer from anemia from the start, it will be very dangerous for pregnancy and childbirth if they later marry and become mothers. One of the factors that influences the occurrence of anemia is iron deficiency. Foods that can increase the absorption of iron, especially non-heme iron, are vitamin C and certain sources of animal protein, such as meat and fish. Handling anemia with food ingredients is still rarely done even though it has great potential to prevent anemia, especially in adolescent girls. This study aims to determine the description of the use of local food to prevent anemia in adolescent girls. This research method is descriptive research with a cross-sectional approach. The population of this study were all female students at SMAS Adhyaksa 1 Jambi City with a sample of 31 people using the Slovin formula. Samples were taken using a simple random sampling technique. This study was conducted from October 2023 to August 2024 at SMAS Adhyaksa 1 Jambi. The results showed that almost half of the female adolescents often (1x/day) consume protein (41.9%), vegetables 3-6x/week (48.4%), fruits 3-6x/week (45.2%). More than half of the female adolescents never consume iron tablets (58.1%) and tea/coffee with meals (54.8%). A small number of female adolescents rarely consume milk (38.7%). Local foods for preventing anemia that are most widely consumed by female adolescents at SMAS Adhyaksa 1 are red meat (animal protein source), tempeh (vegetable protein source), spinach (vegetables) and oranges (fruits). It is hoped that schools can increase education about the use of local food to prevent anemia and for young women, they can increase their intake of diverse local food to prevent anemia from occurring early on.

Abstract

The natural role of women includes pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding. However, these joyous moments can sometimes become frightening or even traumatic, especially for first-time mothers. Many expectant mothers feel pressured and fear that they will not be able to provide breast milk (ASI) for their babies. This fear often leads to real difficulties in breastfeeding. Breast milk is the best food for babies up to the age of two years. UNICEF states that exclusive breastfeeding can prevent up to 1.3 million deaths in children under the age of five. In Indonesia, many mothers still do not provide exclusive breastfeeding to their babies, and only a small percentage of newborns are breastfed within the first hour of life. The main reason for not breastfeeding or never breastfeeding is the lack of milk production, leading to the introduction of formula milk for infants aged 0-5 months. This research is a descriptive study with a cross-sectional approach. The study was conducted at the Putri Ayu Public Health Center in Jambi City from October 2023 to July 2024. The population in this study consists of all pregnant women at the Putri Ayu Public Health Center, and the sample was selected using accidental sampling techniques. Data analysis was performed using univariate analysis. The research findings indicate that mothers' knowledge about the utilization of local food to increase breast milk production involved 18 respondents. The majority of respondents (60%) had a moderate level of knowledge. It is recommended that healthcare providers and families continue to support pregnant women in utilizing local food to enhance breast milk production. This effort aims to achieve the exclusive breastfeeding program, ultimately reducing maternal mortality rates (AKI), infant mortality rates (AKB), and stunting.

Abstract

Nausea and vomiting are common symptoms in the first trimester of pregnancy. The hormones estrogen and progesterone cause excessive stomach acid production, causing nausea and vomiting, especially in the morning, known as morning sickness. Psychologically, nausea and vomiting during pregnancy affect 80% of pregnant women, resulting in a decreased appetite. In this condition, mothers must continue to eat to ensure the fetus's growth and development. This study aims to determine the relationship between knowledge and access to information in the use of complementary therapies to reduce nausea and vomiting in first-trimester pregnant women. This study was conducted from February 3 to June 20, 2024. Data were collected using a questionnaire. The type of research used was a cross-sectional analysis approach. The population in this study were first-trimester pregnant women with a sample of 18 respondents using the accidental sampling method. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods using the chi-square statistical test. The results showed that most respondents had good knowledge (38.8%) and good access to information (55.6%). The results of the Chi-Square test showed a significant relationship between knowledge and the use of ginger tea (p-value 0.001), and a significant relationship between access to information and the use of ginger tea (p-value 0.002). It is hoped that health workers will continue to play an active role in introducing complementary therapies to reduce nausea and vomiting in pregnant women in the first trimester by providing accurate information so that they can apply them safely and effectively, and the need for anti-nausea medication can be minimized.

Abstract

The process of decreasing the height of the uterine fundus begins since the birth of the placenta if this process fails or there is a problem called subinvolution which can trigger bleeding. One effort to prevent subinvolution is to provide complementary therapy with pineapple juice. Pineapple contains a lot of bromelain enzymes that are not found in other fruits. Bromelain enzymes are one of the enzymes that have proteolytic properties that will shorten the uterine fundus muscles so that there is a decrease in the height of the uterine fundus (HUF). This study aims to determine the effect of pineapple juice on the height of the uterine fundus in postpartum mothers. The research method used is a literature review. The source of literature search uses the Google Scholar database. The results of the literature study obtained 5 journals that met the inclusion criteria where the results of the data analysis showed that before giving pineapple juice, a HUF of 13.70 cm was obtained and after giving pineapple juice for 7 days, the HUF measurement results were 5.0 cm. There is a difference in the average decrease in HUF before and after being given pineapple juice (Ananas Comosus (L) Merr) between the experimental group and the control group. The difference in mean value is 2.06 with a significance of P-value = 0.000. Giving pineapple juice is effective in helping to accelerate the process of uterine involution and reducing the height of the uterine fundus. Midwives should provide education and information about the benefits of pineapple juice in accelerating uterine involution after delivery.

Abstract

Emesis gravidarum is a normal symptom and is often found in the first trimester of pregnancy. Most pregnant women experience nausea and vomiting at various levels so that it can occur at any time, especially in the morning. Emesis gravidarum can be treated non-pharmacologically, one of which is using ginger infusion. The efficacy of ginger as an anti-vomiting agent is considered to have milder side effects than anti-vomiting drugs. This study aims to determine the knowledge and access to information of pregnant women in reducing emesis gravidarum by drinking ginger infusion. The study was conducted on November 4, 2022-June 20, 2023. The type of research used is descriptive with a cross-sectional approach. The population in this study was 25 pregnant women with sampling carried out by total sampling, namely 25 pregnant women. The data collection technique used a closed questionnaire with 10 multiple-choice questions and a checklist by conducting validity and reliability tests on the questionnaire. Based on the results of the study, it is known that out of 25 respondents, most of the knowledge is sufficient, namely 16 (64%), how to overcome emesis gravidarum by drinking ginger infusion as much as 13 (52%) with the effectiveness of ginger infusion on reducing emesis gravidarum reduced by 11 pregnant women (84.6%), and respondents obtained access to information about ginger infusion from friends or neighbors and family as much as 10 (40%). Therefore, it is hoped that midwives can introduce this ginger infusion so that pregnant women can get accurate information, both on how to make it, and the right dosage for pregnant women in reducing emesis gravidarum.
