Abstract

Aging is always accompanied by changes in all systems in the human body, including a decrease in cognitive function. Brain gym is one of exercises that can improve cognitive function in the elderly. This study aims to determine the effect of brain gym exercise on cognitive function in the elderly. This study employs an experimental research design. The sample used was 20 elderly who visited Puskesmas Tamalanrea Jaya Makassar. The sample was then divided randomly into two groups (intervention group and control group). Cognitive function in the elderly was measured using MMSE. The results showed that there were significant changes in cognitive function after the administration of brain gym in the intervention group (p <0.05), while there were no significant changes after the administration of elderly exercise in the control group (p> 0.05). Moreover, it was found that there were no significant differences in cognitive function score between the two groups (p> 0.05). However, the average score of cognitive function in the intervention group is greater than in the control group. Therefore, it can be concluded that there is an effect of brain gym exercise on changes in cognitive function in the elderly.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the addition of bobath exercise with (task-oriented training) on the balance of Cerebral Palsy children. Research use method Quasi experiment with pre test – post test two group design involving 44 (66.67%) boys and 22 (33.33%) girls aged 1-7 years. The research subjects were 66 people divided into two groups randomly. Group I, 33 children with cerebral palsy, were given Pilates exercises and group II, 33 children with cerebral palsy, were given bobath exercises. Treat each child with a dose of 1 time/day, 3 times a week with a treatment time of 45 minutes for each child for 16 weeks. Held from January to May 2024 at the Disabled Children's Education Foundation in Makassar City and the Children's Growth and Development Clinic in Daya Makassar City. Result, in the Bobath group's paired t-test statistical test for balance, the value was obtained at p=0.002 and for standing balance, the value was obtained at p=0.083. The bobath exercises group for sitting balance obtained a value of p = 0.001 and for standing balance obtained a value of p = 0.023. The Independent t-test statistical test obtained a value of p = 0.039 for sitting balance and standing balance obtained a value of p = 0.034. Conclusion, Bobath exercises which add task-oriented training to the sitting balance of children with cerebral palsy are effective in improving the sitting balance of children with cerebral palsy.

Abstract

Low back pain is characterized by complaints of pain in the lumbosacrum, sacroiliac, hips and is often accompanied by pain in the legs, numbness and weakness. Low back pain is the main factor causing someone to lose work time and reduce worker productivity. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of core stability exercises to increase lumbar flexibility and muscle strength in patients with low back pain. This type of research was pre-experimental with a one group pretest and posttest design, which was carried out at the Salewangan Regional General Hospital, Maros from April to August 2019. The research sample was 35 patients with low back pain who met the inclusion criteria, namely all patients who were diagnosed lower back pain, regularly undergoing physiotherapy at the hospital, signing informed consent as a research sample; the exclusion criteria were sufferers of low back pain with obesity, patients after muscle or nerve surgery and patients with fractures of the vertebrae. Lumbar flexibility was measured using the scober test and muscle strength was measured using manual muscle testing before and after treatment. Next, the data was analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results of the analysis showed a p-value = 0.000, which means there was a difference in lumbar flexibility and muscle strength between before and after the intervention. It was concluded that core stability exercises were effective for increasing lumbar flexibility and muscle strength in patients with low back pain.Keywords: low back pain; core stability exercise; lumbar flexibility; muscle strength ABSTRAK Nyeri punggung bawah ditandai dengan keluhan nyeri pada bagian lumbo sakrum, sakroiliaka, pinggul dan sering disertai nyeri pada kaki, mati rasa dan kelemahan. Nyeri punggung bawah menjadi faktor utama penyebab seseorang kehilangan waktu kerja dan menurunkan poduktivitas pekerja. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui efektifitas core stability exercises untuk meningkatkan fleksibilitas lumbal dan kekuatan otot pada pasien nyeri punggung bawah. Jenis penelitian ini adalah pra eksperimental dengan rancangan one group pretest and posttest, yang dilaksanakan di Rumah Sakit Umum Daerah Salewangan, Maros pada bulan April sampai dengan Agustus 2019. Sampel penelitian adalah 35 pasien dengan nyeri punggung bawah yang memenuhi kriteria inklusi yaitu semua pasien yang terdiagnosis nyeri punggung bawah, rutin menjalani fisioterapi di rumah sakit, menandatangani informed consent sebagai sampel penelitian; dengan kriteria eksklusi  adalah penderita nyeri punggung bawah dengan obesitas, pasien pasca operasi otot atau saraf dan pasien dengan fraktur pada vertebrae. Pengukuran fleksibitas lumbal dilakukan menggunakan scober testdan pengukuran kekuatan otot dilakukan dengan manual muscle testing sebelum dan sesudah perlakuan. Selanjutnya dilakukan dianalisis data dengan uji Wilcoxon. Hasil analisis menunjukkan nilai p = 0,000 yang berarti ada perbedaan fleksibilitas lumbal dan kekuatan otot antara sebelum dan sesudah intervensi. Disimpulkan bahwa core stability exercises efektif untuk meningkatkan fleksibilitas lumbal dan kekuatan otot pasien dengan nyeri punggung bawah.Kata kunci: nyeri punggung bawah; core stability exercise; fleksibilitas lumbal; kekuatan otot

Abstract

Common deficiencies in stroke include spasticity, weakness, and loss of balance on the affected side leading to an inability to maintain postural balance. Postural balance is one of the most important indicators of functional recovery after stroke. The occurrence of weakness, postural imbalance, failure of dynamic stability, and difficulty in transferring body weight have a negative impact on the patient's activities so that it affects independence, quality of life and work productivity. This study combines a motor relearning program, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation and core stability exercise to solve the problem of sitting to standing balance and muscle strength in stroke patients. The design of this research was one group pretest-posttest. The study was carried out in several hospitals in the city of Makassar with a sample size of 40 stroke patients. The comparison of the result scores in the pretest and posttest phases was analyzed by Wilcoxon test. The results of the analysis for sitting to standing balance obtained p value = 0.00 and for muscle strength obtained p value = 0.000. Furthermore, it was concluded that the combination therapy of motor relearning program, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation and core stability exercise was significantly effective in improving sitting to standing balance and postural muscle strength in stroke patients.Keywords: motor relearning program; proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation; core stability exercise; stroke ABSTRAK Defisiensi umum pada stroke meliputi spastisitas, kelemahan, dan hilangnya keseimbangan pada sisi yang terkena sehingga menyebabkan ketidakmampuan untuk menjaga keseimbangan postural. Keseimbangan postural merupakan  salah satu indikator terpenting dalam pemulihan fungsional setelah stroke. Terjadinya kelemahan,  ketidakseimbangan postural, kegagalan stabilitas dinamis, dan kesulitan dalam mentransfer berat badan berdampak negatif pada aktivitas  pasien sehingga mempengaruhi kemandirian, kualitas hidup dan produktivitas kerja. Penelitian ini mengombinasikan motor relearning program, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation dan core stability exercise untuk menyelesaikan problem keseimbangan duduk ke berdiri dan kekuatan otot pasien stroke. Rancangan penelitian ini adalah one  group pretest-posttest. Penelitian di laksanakan di beberapa rumah sakit di kota Makassar dengan ukuran sampel = 40 pasien stroke. Perbandingan skor hasil pada fase pretest dan posttest dianalisis dengan Wilcoxon test. Hasil analisis untuk keseimbangan duduk ke berdiri diperoleh nilai p = 0.00 dan untuk kekuatan otot diperoleh nilai p = 0.000. Selanjutnya disimpulkan bahwa terapi kombinasi motor relearning program, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation dan core stability exercise efektif secara signifikan untuk meningkatkan  keseimbangan duduk ke berdiri dan kekuatan otot postural pada  penderita stroke.Kata kunci: motor relearning program; proprioceptive  neuromuscular  facilitation;  core stability exercise; stroke

Abstract

The main problem of this study is the impaired balance of sitting and standing in children with cerebral palsy, due to brain damage during the child's growth and development which is non-progressive and causes limitations in sitting and standing balance. The purpose of this study was to test the effectiveness of the Bobath Exercise method to improve sitting and standing balance in children with cerebral palsy. This study used a one-group pretest and posttest design, involving 33 pediatric patients with cerebral palsy, aged 1-8 years. They required Bobath Exercise intervention, and before and after the intervention, sitting balance measurements were carried out using the Level Sitting Scale and standing balance using the Pediatric Balance Scale. Furthermore, the scores of the measurement results in the pre- and post-intervention phases were compared using a paired samples t-test. The results of the analysis showed that the p-value for the comparison of sitting balance was 0.001, while the p-value for standing balance was 0.023. Both were less than 0.05, so it can be interpreted that there was a significant difference in sitting and standing balance between before and after the intervention. Thus, it can be concluded that Bobath Exercise is an effective method for improving sitting and standing balance in children with cerebral palsy.Keywords: cerebral palsy; children; Bobath Exercises; sitting balance; standing balance ABSTRAK  Masalah utama penelitian ini adalah gangguan keseimbangan duduk dan berdiri anak dengan cerebral palsy, karena adanya kerusakan pada otak dalam masa pertumbuhan dan perkembangan anak yang bersifat non progresif dan menyebabkan terbatasnya keseimbangan duduk dan berdiri. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah menguji efektivitas metode Bobath Exercise untuk meningkatkan keseimbangan duduk dan berdiri pada anak dengan cerebral palsy. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan one group pretest and posttest, dengan melibatkan 33 pasien anak dengan cerebral palsy, yang berusia 1-8 tahun. Kepada mereka diperlukan intervensi Bobath Exercise, dan sebelum serta sesudah intervensi tersebut dilakukan pengukuran keseimbangn duduk menggunakan dengan Level Sitting of Scale dan keseimbangan berdiri menggunakan Pediatric Balance Scale. Selanjutnya skor hasil pengukuran pada fase sebelum dan sesudah intervensi dibandingkan dengan paired samples t-test. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa nilai p untuk perbandingan keseimbangan duduk adalah 0,001, sedangkan nilai p untuk kesimbangan berdiri adalah 0,023. Keduanya kurang dari 0,05, sehingga bisa dimaknai bahwa ada perbedaan kesimbangan duduk maupun keseimbangan berdiri secara signifikan antara sebelum dan sesudah intervensi. Dengan demikian bisa disimpulkan bahwa Bobath Exercise merupakan metode yang efektif untuk meningkatkan keseimbangan keseimbangan duduk dan berdiri pada anak dengan cerebral palsy.Kata kunci: cerebral palsy; anak; Bobath Exercises; keseimbangan duduk; keseimbangan berdiri
