Abstract

Stroke is one of the most common causes of disability in the world. Patients with ischemic stroke have different functional improvements from patients with hemorrhagic stroke. The tool is the Functional Independence Measure (FIM) questionnaire. This study aims to determine the difference in FIM scores in hospitalized patients with ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke at hospitals in Bengkulu City. This research is an observational analytic research with cross-sectional design. The study involved stroke patients who hospitalized at RS Bhayangkara Bengkulu City, RSUD Bengkulu City, and RSUD dr. M. Yunus Bengkulu City from January-April 2018 with total sample 22 ischemic stroke patients and 22 hemorrhagic stroke patients who met the inclusion criteria. FIM scores as independent variables, while the type of stroke as dependent variables. The difference between the two variables was analyzed by unpaired t test and Mann-Whitney test. Patients with ischemic stroke had admission FIM score higher than patients with hemorrhagic stroke (26 vs 13,5; p=0.006). There were no differences in discharge FIM score in patients in both types of stroke (1,67 vs 1,58; p=0,081). There was no difference in FIM score gain between patients with ischemic stroke and patients with hemorrhagic stroke (4,12 vs 4,36; p=0,444). Patients with ischemic stroke had higher admission FIM score compared to patients with hemorrhagic stroke, but there was no significant difference in FIM score gain during hospitalization between ischemic stroke and hemorrhagic stroke patients at hospitals in Bengkulu City.

Abstract

Glucose levels that accumulate in the blood can cause other organ disorders and even cause death. To prevent such occurrence, continuous and regular glucose measuring and monitoring is required for diabetes mellitus (DM) patients. Glucose measurement for DM patients are generally performed several times a day, so be required easy, harmless method of measuring the DM patients, and monitoring data are well recorded. Thus in this research, an android non-invasive glucose level system with wireless communication and automatic data storage on the phone’s memory was developed. The study was begun with the built of electronic and software systems as the central part of the measuring system. The electronic section consists of laser and light sensors that respond to a change in blood glucose (BG) levels, the microcontroller that controlled all of the measuring processes, and Bluetooth modules as transceiver on data communication of the android. The software section is built using an App Inventor developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to display and store data measurement on the mobile phone. The calibration process of light sensors is done with the standard tool and at last, the wireless communication systems testing and BG levels measurement. The result shows that 94 mg/dl of BG levels by standard tools equals 2.86 volts of voltage measured by the design system. The higher the BG level, the lower the voltage be. Increase the BG level causes the resistance between the transmitter and the receiver to raise and the voltage becomes low.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Low back pain (pain or discomfort below the costal margin and above the inferior gluteal fold accompanied by leg pain or not) is considered one of the work-related musculoskeletal disorders. Aims and scope of paper:Identifying the prevalence and risk factors for lower back pain in fishermen in Bengkulu City. Methods: A total of 93 fishermen were included in the study, selected using a simple random sampling technique. An observational analytical method with a cross-sectional approach was employed in this study, and data analysis was performed using the Kolmogorov Smirnov for normality test and the Pearson test for bivariate analysis. Result: In Bengkulu City, low back pain was experienced by a total of 68 fishermen (73.12%) and disability was experienced by 39 fishermen (41.9%). The dominant age group in this study was 20 – 39 years with 42 fishermen (45.16%). Normal BMI dominated with 50 fishermen (53.76%). Work duration of more than 7 hours was reported by 70 fishermen (75.26%). Consumption of 1-20 cigarettes per day was reported by 68 fishermen (73.12%). Awkward postures with a high risk level were experienced by 41 fishermen (44.08%). Conclusion: The risk factors potentially involved in this case are age and BMI. Meanwhile, the incidence of low back pain was found to have no significant relationship with work duration (p = 0.635), smoking habit (p = 0.58), or work posture (p = 0.063).
