Abstract

This paper proposes a model of learning-oriented assessment to inform assessment theory and practice in speaking class. It focuses on two interrelated processes: the students’ assessment tasks and student engagement with feedback. The research method involves classroom observations of in English speaking class in university level and semi-structured interviews with the lecturer and some sample of the students’ feedback. Findings highlight assessment tasks promoting thinking and practicing in the speaking activities and direct feedback to promote timely dialogues with students. The coherence of the model is discussed and some areas for further exploration are suggested. Based on the data analysis, the model shows significantly positive outcome. In the student side, it provides clearly path for them to reach the standard goal since they always get negative evidence from the teacher in each time they are out of the track. In the teacher side, it also provides positive effect. As they give negative evidence or correct the student’s mistake, they auomatically need to monitor the student’s development on every stages. It gives a crystal clear sight of student’s improvement. Finally it supports significantly on the assessment reliability of their speaking skill.

Abstract

Recently, technology is getting common and cheap for people. It can be reached easily around them, even in their grasp. The development of smartphone and various free applications bring great opportunity and easiness in live and learning process as well. Their integration can be a potential media to improve learners’ English competence, especially their receptive skill. There are three free apps needed to change e-book into audiobook in the smartphone, consist of FBReader, FBReader TTS plugin and Ivona. A common writing in the e-book can be change into a voice which one can hear with or without read it. It is a new way to practice and improve listening and reading skill. Here, some potentials, advantages and also pedagogical implications of them are elaborated. It is expected that learners can improve their English skills while having fun. Abstract

Bahan ajar atau sering disebut sebagai materi pelajaran merupakan bagian terpenting dalam proses pembelajaran, materi pelajaran merupakan inti dari kegiatan pembelajaran. Dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar, pada hakekatnya merupakan kondisi yang unik, sebab secara sengaja atau tidak sengaja masing-masing pihak berada dalam suasana belajar. Jadi tenaga pengajar sebenarnya tidak langsung juga melakukan kegiatan belajar. Seorang tenaga pengajar dalam menjalankan proses pembelajaran membutuhkan suatu bahan ajar karena digunakan untuk membantunya dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar di kelas. Dan dari proses belajar mengajar ini akan diperoleh suatu hasil yang pada umumnya disebut hasil pengajaran. Salah satu masalah penting yang sering dihadapi oleh tenaga pengajar dalam kegiatan pembelajaran adalah memilih atau menentukan bahan ajar atau materi pembelajaran yang tepat dalam rangka membantu siswa mencapai kompetensi. Dengan melakukan pelatihan pengembangan bahan ajar kepada para tenaga pengajar diasosiasi Kampung Bahasa Inggris Pare diharapkan bahwa para tenaga pengajar ini bisa menjadi a) pengajar yang berkompentensi sesuai dengan bidang ilmu/kepakarannya, b) para tenaga pengajar diharapkan akan memiliki kemampuan mengembangkan bahan ajar secara tepat yang sesuai dengan kebutuhan siswa. Beberapa kali pertemuan dilakukan untuk menyajikan materi yang lebih tepat guna kepada para tenaga pengajar. Sehingga para tenaga pengajar akan memiliki kemampuan memahami apa yang dibutuhkan oleh siswanya terutama setelah mereka lulus dari Lembaga Bahasa Inggris tersebut.
