Abstract

In 2018, RW 04 Palmerah, located in the administrative region of Palmerah, West Jakarta, was designated as one of the slum neighborhoods under Jakarta Governor Regulation No. 90. A critical aspect of this regulation addressed the issues of plastic waste and community economic empowerment. Within the context of Community-Based Economic Development through Technology in RW 04 Palmerah, community engagement initiatives aimed to address plastic waste management and enhance economic well-being through technological interventions. Employing a participatory approach, the implementation over two months not only cultivated a clean culture but also effectively processed and utilized plastic waste within the community. Despite modest and fluctuating returns, the initiative significantly contributed to the sustainable model of community-based economic development through technology in the local area, serving as a guiding framework for similar endeavors in other regions.

Abstract

Global warming has become a major concern due to its impacts on the environment and human life. One way to reduce these impacts is by increasing the use of renewable energy. Introducing the concept of renewable energy at the elementary school level is expected to foster students’ awareness and understanding of the importance of using clean energy. This Community Service (PkM) program aims to enhance the knowledge and understanding of students and teachers at SD Islam Al Azhar 5, West Jakarta, regarding solar-based renewable energy through an interactive learning approach. The activities were carried out in several stages, including survey, socialization, training, evaluation, and sustainability. The socialization session was delivered through material presentations supported by engaging visual media, while the training involved assembling toys powered by solar energy. The results showed strong enthusiasm, improved understanding of renewable energy among students and teachers, and enhanced teacher skills in implementing interactive learning. This program also encouraged greater awareness of the importance of adopting renewable energy in daily life.

Abstract

As an archipelagic country, Indonesia has extensive coastal areas that are intensively developed for infrastructure. Kosambi District in Tangerang Regency is one of the rapidly growing coastal regions due to its proximity to Soekarno–Hatta International Airport. However, the area is predominantly underlain by soft marine clay soils with low bearing capacity and high compressibility, which pose challenges for infrastructure development. To improve soil stability, soil stabilization methods are required to enhance unconfined compressive strength and undrained shear strength. This study aims to analyze the effect of cockle shell powder addition on the unconfined compressive strength and undrained shear strength of soft marine clay. Laboratory tests were conducted on untreated soil and soil stabilized with 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% cockle shell powder by dry weight of soil. The results indicate that the optimum performance was achieved at a 10% addition, resulting in a 24.86% increase in unconfined compressive strength compared to untreated soil. In addition to improving strength, the addition of cockle shell powder reduced water content and enhanced interparticle bonding, thereby improving soil stability. These findings demonstrate that cockle shell powder has strong potential as an effective stabilizing material for soft coastal clay soils.
