Abstract

Poverty remains a pervasive global challenge, necessitating effective policy interventions to uplift vulnerable populations. This research delves into the dynamic relationship between social assistance programs and poverty alleviation. Employing a mixed-methods approach, we investigate the impact of these programs on poverty rates, program effectiveness variations, demographic disparities, and the interplay with economic conditions. Our findings offer compelling insights. Firstly, social assistance programs exhibit a statistically significant reduction in poverty rates among beneficiaries, confirming their vital role in poverty alleviation. Moreover, variations in program effectiveness emerge, with cash transfer programs demonstrating immediate impact compared to in-kind assistance programs. Demographic differences further shape program outcomes, as programs targeting children and single-parent households exhibit pronounced effects on poverty reduction. Economic conditions also matter, as these programs prove more effective during periods of robust economic growth, serving as vital safety nets during economic downturns. Conditional social assistance programs demonstrate promise by incentivizing positive behaviors such as education enrollment and healthcare utilization. These findings hold significant policy implications, emphasizing the need for evidence-based program design and implementation. This research concludes with a call for comprehensive approaches to poverty alleviation, considering demographic variations, economic contexts, and the potential benefits of conditional programs. Ongoing monitoring and evaluation are pivotal in adapting programs to evolving circumstances, thus contributing to a more equitable and prosperous society.

Abstract

Narcotics abuse is a pressing issue with profound implications for public health, social well-being, and community resilience in Medan City. This research investigates the effectiveness of existing criminal law policies in mitigating narcotics abuse, employing a mixed-methods approach that integrates quantitative and qualitative analyses. The quantitative analysis, drawing from law enforcement records and health institutions, reveals a cyclic pattern in drug-related incidents, demonstrating short-term declines following intensified law enforcement actions, which are subsequently followed by resurgences in narcotics-related activities. The adaptability of drug trade networks poses a formidable challenge, emphasizing the need for flexible and evolving law enforcement strategies. Qualitative insights, gathered through interviews with various stakeholders, underscore the significance of socioeconomic factors in perpetuating drug abuse. The limitations in current rehabilitation and support programs, alongside the necessity for improved access and outreach, are apparent. Stakeholders advocate for a balanced and comprehensive approach that integrates preventive education, mental health support, and robust rehabilitation programs. The research carries implications for policy development, public health strategies, and community engagement. Effective policy measures are identified as the cornerstone of efforts to address narcotics abuse, while the need for community resilience and public health support is underlined. Furthermore, the implications extend beyond Medan City, offering valuable lessons for similar regions grappling with drug-related challenges. This research serves as a guidepost for refining existing policies, fostering collaboration, and developing more robust strategies to promote a healthier and more resilient Medan City. The battle against narcotics abuse is an ongoing endeavor, and the insights gained from this study are instrumental in shaping a brighter and more drug-resistant future for the city and its residents.

Abstract

Assessing the Impact of the National Health Insurance Program (JKN) on Healthcare Access in City Medan. This research evaluates the impact of the National Health Insurance Program (JKN) on healthcare access in City Medan, Indonesia. Implemented with the goal of providing equitable and affordable healthcare services to all citizens, JKN has undergone scrutiny to assess its effectiveness in improving healthcare access and outcomes. Employing a mixed-methods approach, this study amalgamates quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews. Stratified sampling was utilized to collect data from diverse socio-economic groups across City Medan. Quantitative surveys focused on healthcare utilization patterns, awareness of JKN benefits, and demographic factors, while qualitative interviews explored nuanced perspectives, barriers to access, and suggestions for improvement. The analysis reveals a notable increase in healthcare utilization and improved accessibility to essential services following JKN implementation. However, disparities in service quality across healthcare facilities persist, coupled with geographical barriers and administrative complexities hindering seamless service provision. Maternal and child health indicators show promise, and preventive healthcare practices are gaining traction, indicating a shift towards proactive health-seeking behaviors. The research underscores the necessity for policy refinements, targeted interventions, technological innovations, community engagement, and efficient resource allocation to strengthen JKN's effectiveness. Strategic recommendations advocate for streamlined administrative processes, service quality enhancements, and geographical outreach to remote communities

Abstract

This research delves into the dynamic world of informal language usage among students on the popular messaging platform, WhatsApp. As digital communication becomes an integral part of daily life, the study examines the frequency, variability, motivations, and social dynamics of slang usage among students. Through surveys, interviews, and, where possible, data analysis of WhatsApp conversations, the research uncovers the complex interplay between language, technology, and human connection in the digital realm. The findings reveal that slang is not merely a linguistic phenomenon but a reflection of the adaptability of language in the digital age. It serves as a linguistic bridge that enables informal communication in digital interactions. The lexicon of slang is diverse and ever-evolving, reflecting the cultural and social context in which it thrives. Motivations for slang usage go beyond humor and informality, extending to self-expression, emotional connection, and the formation of digital identities. Slang enhances social bonds and fosters a sense of belonging among peers, shaping the quality of digital interactions. Demographic variations in slang usage demonstrate its context-dependent nature, influenced by factors such as age, gender, and geographical location. Slang's impact on digital communication is significant, enhancing informal exchanges while presenting challenges, particularly in cross-cultural interactions. This research underscores the importance of digital literacy and cross-cultural understanding in online interactions and has implications for education, linguistic research, and cross-cultural communication. As the digital landscape continues to evolve, this research offers a deeper understanding of the role of language in shaping human connections in the digital age. It calls for ongoing exploration into the ever-changing linguistic dynamics of digital communication and its profound impact on contemporary society.
