Abstract

The present study was a part of larger research aimed at analysing the research article abstracts taken from International Conference on Science and Education and Technology 2018 (ISET 2018). This study was descriptive study under SFL analysis in research article abstracts at 2018 ISET realized from 170 clause complexes. Under a SFL theory, the data were collected through retrieving twenty relevant article abstracts on the International Conference on Science and Education and Technology 2018 (ISET 2018). The article abstracts are analysed using the framewok of systemic functional linguistic as suggested by Halliday & Matthiessen (2014). However, in this study the writer employs the taxis sytems which covers elaboration, extension, and enhancement. Besides, logico-semantic relation is also analysed which covers projection and expansion. The findings reveal that there are 81 clause complexes of parataxis which are realised 47%, afterwards, there are 35 clause complexes of hypotaxis which are realised 20.5%. Hence, the researchers is more using parataxis then hypotaxis. Bassed on the findings, it is recommended that English teacher can apply clause constructions to encourage the English learners to think critically. After being able to implement their critical thinking, the English learners are hoped to be able to read critically. Through having critical reading, they are suggested to be able to evaluate both their works and the other works as the main purpose in learning systemic functional linguistics.

Abstract

This study reports the anaysis of taxis realized in cluase complexes of the article abstracts. The article abstracts themselves were taken from the International Seminar on Educational Technology (ISET) proceedings published by Postgraduate program, State University of Semarang. In the present study, the writers employed qualitative descriptive study such suggested by Fraenkel, Wallen, and Hyun (2012) to analyze the data. The results of the study showed that parataxis is more dominant than hypotaxis used in clause complexes in article abstracts. Those could be seen that 10% of parataxis is constructed in the text, while 8% of hypotaxis is constructed in the texts. In conclusion, the construction of parataxis is more dominant written in the article abstracts. This study reports the anaysis of taxis realized in cluase complexes of the article abstracts. Abstract

This study investigated the effectiveness of the Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) method in enhancing the early childhood’s cognitive development of 4-5 years old at Kober Al Hidayah. The STEAM method emphasizes the interconnectedness of knowledge and skills. This study employed a quantitative method under pre-experimental design. The findings of the study found that before being given the implementation of the STEAM method, the early childhood’s cognitive development of 4-5 years old at Kober Al Hidayah showed "Quite Good”. Meanwhile, after being given the implementation of the STEAM method, the early childhood’s cognitive development of 4-5 years old at Kober Al Hidayah showed "Very Good". Furthermore, the t-test supported the findings which shiwed t-observed > t-table at which the score 9.347 > 2.145 alt al significalnce level of 5%. These findings led to the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted. Thus, statistically there was positive effect on the implementation of the STEAM method on the early childhood’s cognitive development of 4-5 years old at Kober Al Hidayah.
