Abstract

A plastic extruder is a tool used with the extrusion process to change the shape of plastic shreds into filaments using high temperatures during the plastic melting process. The effect of temperature on the process of making filaments made from Polylactic Acid (PLA) using a plastic extruder machine and applying it to 3D printing. In making filaments, we usually use plastic pellets, including Polycaprolactone (PCL), Low Density Polyethylene (LDPE), and Polylactic Acid (PLA). Plastic pellets, especially PLA plastic pellets, have disadvantages, namely lower strength and durability, poor heat resistance, sensitivity to humidity, and post-process limitations. The purpose of making filaments is carried out with temperature variations of 110°C, 120°C, and 130°C to determine the optimal temperature that produces the best filament quality. in the printing process. The testing stages are literature study, determination of objects and pages, preparation of materials and machining, processes in making filaments (PLA), temperature settings, making 3D printing specimens, sample testing, and analysis. Conclusions to obtain optimal filament results are obtained through tensile testing. Before testing, the printing process was carried out using a 3D printing machine. After that, a tensile strength test was carried out to determine the mechanical strength of the filament produced. The results of this study showed that the extrusion temperature of 110°C is the optimal temperature for making PLA filaments using a plastic extruder machine. Filaments produced at this temperature have higher mechanical strength values and better surface quality.
