Abstract

ABSTRACT  This research entitled “Ellipsis in the Book of John” is written to identify, classify and analyze the kinds of ellipsis that found in the book of John. Ellipsis is the omitting of certain lingual units which have mentioned previously and the omitting elements are words, phrases, clauses or sentence. The method used in this research is descriptive method. The data were taken from the book of John based on The Holy Bible New International Version. The writer uses a  theory of Aarts and Aarts (1982) to classify and analyze the kinds of ellipsis. The kinds of ellipsis found in the book of John are : ellipsis involving the subject only, ellipsis involving the subject and (part(s) of) the predicator, ellipsis involving, (part(s) of) the predicator, ellipsis involving (part(s) of) the predicator and a complement or adverbial and ellipsis involving a complement or an adverbial only. The writer also found the others kinds of ellipsis which is not included in the theory of Aarts and Aarts, they are : ellipsis involving the subject, predicator and complement, ellipsis involving the subject, adverb and predicator, ellipsis involving the subject that followed by adjective clause. Abstract

This research is aimed to identify the utterances of bald on record Face Threatening Acts, to analyze its translation techniques and its translation quality in the comic entitled Scrooge McDuck’s Greatest Treasure by Carl Bark. This research is a qualitative research. The source of research is the Scrooge McDuck’s Greatest Treasure comic with its translation and the informant who assessed the translation quality. The data is speech which represent the bald on record utterances. The data are collected using document analysis and Focus Group Discussion. The research found 84 data which represent bald on record utterance in the comic. The translation techniques is dominated by established equivalence. The translation quality shows that the accuracy is 2,85, acceptability is 3 and readability is 2,95.

Abstract

Promiscuity is a form of deviant behavior that crosses the boundaries of existing social and recligious norms. Teenagers are usually the main targets of this deviation. This service activity aims to gain knowledge about the very detrimental impacts of promiscuity and increase awaraness to be involved in efforts to prevent promiscuity for young people. Therefore, AMIK Luwuk Banggai, which consists of a team of lectures and students, collaborated to carry out this service at Jemaat GKLB Eben Haezer in Eteng Village, Lamala Distric, Banggai Regency.

Abstract

Abstract This study is a descriptive qualitative that aims to describe the types of Face threatening Acts (FTAs). Besides, this study also aims to analyze the translation techniques and the translation quality of a novel entitles Anne of Green Gables. It is found that 37 utterances which accommodates FTAs in the orientation structure of the novel and involves 4 types of FTAs, they are bald on record (18 data), off record (6 data), FTA using positive politeness (3 data), and FTA using negative politeness (10 data). The translation techniques used to translate the FTAs are established equivalence, linguistic amplification, discursive creation, addition, borrowing, reduction, and modulation. Established equivalence is the most dominant techniques. Therefore, the translation quality of FTAs in Anne of Green Gables is accurate, acceptable, and readable.

Abstract

As an English lecturer who presents and explains material using English in the class, it is important to know the students’ perceptions about this method. This article aims to discover students’ perceptions of the use of English in the English class. Data were collected through a questionnaire containing 15 questions which were close-ended. The result indicates that students prefer the lecturer to use Indonesian as the instruction language to explain grammar or vocabulary because it makes them feel more comfortable, understand better, more confident in the learning process. However, the lecture’s use of English did not significantly impact students’ motivation and participation to learn English.

Abstract

Penggunaan Teknologi Informasi khususnya komputer tidak terbatas pada orang dewasa saja, namun dapat pula digunakan oleh anak-anak usia sekolah termasuk Sekolah Dasar. Pengetahuan siswa-siswi Sekolah Dasar Negeri Mansahang (SDN Negeri Mansahang) tentang aplikasi komputer yang masih kurang inilah yang mendasari pelaksanaan kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini. Kolaborasi kegiatan pengabdian antara mahasiswa dan dosen ini bertujuan untuk memberikan sosialisasi pengenalan komputer dasar bagi siswa kelas V dan VI di Sekolah Dasar Negeri Mansahang. Metode Pelaksanaan kegiatan ini adalah ceramah dan diskusi. Hasilnya menunjukkan tingkat antusiasme siswa-siswi cukup baik pada saat kegiatan sosialisasi. Selain itu, kegiatan pengabdian ini juga berjalan baik dan lancar berkat dukungan dan kontribusi dari berbagai pihak.
