Abstract

ABSTRACTThis research conveys how literature works, especially novels that understand the personality of the main character. This study answers two problems, namely: (1) What is the character of the main character in the novel “Di sini Cinta Pertama Kali Bersemi ? (2) What moral message do the authors want to convey through the novel Di sini Cinta Pertama Kali Bersemi?The method used in this research is descriptive analysis method. In this method the researcher divides the activity into 2 stages: first, analyzing the sosychological approach of the main character Di sini Cinta Pertama Kali Bersemi based on character theory according to Hippocrates and Galenus. The second analyzes moral messages based on attitude, behavior and karmic order in the novel “Di sini  Cinta Pertama Kali Bersemi”..The data source of this research is the novel "translated by Disini Cinta Pertama Kali Bersemi” 1990. It is 300 pages long and was first published by the Indonesian Torch Foundation, a member of IKAPI DKI Jakarta. This research is in the form of direct and indirect quotes contained in the novel Di sini Cinta Pertama Kali Bersemi.The results of this study indicate that the literary Sosychology approach in the novel Disini Cinta Pertama Kali Bersemi. Is an emancipation character of the main character who tells the romance of emancipation of a woman who has steadfastly championed her rights and obligations starting from education and love life.Keywords: Field of Literature.

Abstract

This research is a study of the science of sign or semiotic, which aims to reveal the cultural meaning of Manado-Malay speaking community. The sign discussed is the sign found in Manado-Malay poem entitled "Cap Tikus Blues" by Minahasa poet Fredy Wowor. This poem was chosen since it is considered relevant to the context of the time and various generations. As for this research is a qualitative research, thus, the method used is a descriptive qualitative method or a study that describes the object under study in accordance with the function and nature of the object. Poetry in this study is studied and described based on the nature of the object or reference as stated by Charles Sanders Pierce, namely (1) icons (2) indexes, and (3) symbols. The results of the research show that these three signs are found in the poem discussed above. Symbol is the most common sign type, followed by index, and icon consecutively. The cultural meaning or message contained therein is advice that seeks to remind and criticize one another regarding the positive and negative impacts of alcohol. In addition, the results of this study show that poetry is not only a medium for expressing poets' feelings, but also as a forum for disseminating ideas as well as social criticism for the wider community.
