Abstract

ABSTRACT The aim of this research is to know the attack and damage of clove stem borer Hexamitodera semivelutina at some elevation in Rerer village of Kombi sub-district of Minahasa Regencyfor 2 months (February - April 2017). The research was conducted by survey  on farmers’ clove plantation area. The research was using a stratified random sampling method with observing the incidence and severity of H. semivelutina pest of clove plant. Treadment using 3 stratum height of place from sea level  that is 0 - <300 meters from sea level (mfsl), 300 - <600 (mfsl), and >600 (mfsl). The result of this research are the symptom of attack and damage of clove plant caused by H. Semivelutina pest as follows : incidence rate and severity according to altitude of place 0 - <300 mfsl are 24.67% and 12.55%, while at height 300 - <600 mfsl are 42.34% and 22.88 %, and at altitude> 600 mfsl are 61.67% and 33.66%.Keywords : incidence of pest, severity of pest, Hexamitodera semivelutina

Abstract

Researchers conducted research on the effectiveness of mulu bebe banana peel as an alternative edible coating to increase the shelf life of tomatoes. This research aims to find a method for making edible coating from Mulu Bebe banana peel with several concentrations so that it can extend the shelf life of tomatoes. The benefit of this research is to extend the shelf life of tomatoes. The research was carried out from June to September 2023, carried out at the BASIC SCIENCE Laboratory at Hein Namotemo University. Things that were observed were changes in the texture, color and weight of the tomatoes during the day of observation. The results of the research on changes in the texture of tomatoes, tomatoes without treatment (concentration 0%) until the twelfth day of observation, the surface of the fruit skin began to wrinkle and when held the tomatoes were no longer hard (soft and rotting), in contrast to tomatoes with treatment, edible concentration coating 20% and 25% fruit skin is still as on the first day of observation only slightly wrinkled. The color change was also very different between the control and concentration treatments. In terms of tomato fruit weight, the smallest loss value compared to other concentrations was found in the 25% edible coating concentration treatment from an initial weight of 72 grams to 69.2 grams on the twelfth day, only losing 2.8 grams in weight.

Abstract

Research on the development of several types of banana peels as an alternative edible coating is important to increase the shelf life of tomatoes, the purpose of the study was to produce the best edible coating from the three types of banana peels. Observations were made on changes in the texture of tomatoes and weighing the weight of tomatoes (fruit shrinkage) for 7 days of observation. Weight loss analysis with qualitative methods. The results showed changes in the shape of tomatoes before and after the application of edible coating. From 3 types of banana peels, it was shown that tomatoes that were applied with edible coating had a good texture until the seventh day compared to tomatoes without treatment. The results of the analysis of tomato weight loss showed a difference in the decrease in tomato weight loss, the application of edible coating with goroho banana peels showed the smallest fruit weight loss figure of 0.33 grams, followed by the application of 45% edible coating mulu bebe bananas 0.50 grams and raja bananas 0.83 grams, this is suspected that the pectin content of goroho banana peels is higher than the pectin content in mulu bebe banana peels and raja banana peels. The results of the study obtained good results. This research is good because it can be developed and applied by the community because it is safe for consumers.
