Abstract

There is much research on the impact of infrastructure development, especially roads in Indonesia. This in general only focuses on the social transformation based on the economic changes of the community. These research show the social transformation as the impact of the road infrastructure development projects goes beyond economic changes. Using the perspective of a critical study of development anthropology, the author discusses the impact of Lintas Bono Road infrastructure development project in Pelalawan Regency, Riau Province to the social transformation of the surrounding communities. This study used an ethnographic method to conduct observations and interviews with the stakeholders and communities around the Lintas Bono Road infrastructure development project. This project, which develops by the Kampar River flow, has opened road access to many coastal villages of Kampar River. This condition has triggered changes in public transportation modes, trade patterns for agricultural products, ethnic composition, and the land tenurial system in affected villages. The fact that the construction of this road has not been completed after seventeen years does not make the community reject this development. The shortcomings and failures of these developments have actually made the development of this road as a "desiring machine" for the community to continue to achieve their development dreams.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate how Nasr Hamid Abu Zayd employs language as a site of power and resistance in the reinterpretation of Islamic texts and the promotion of religious pluralism. It focuses on how his linguistic-hermeneutical approach challenges dominant literalist paradigms and contributes to the development of inclusive Islamic theology. The research adopts a qualitative methodology through textual analysis of Abu Zayd’s major works, complemented by a critical discourse analysis (CDA) framework. Key concepts such as language, power, and authority in interpretation are examined to understand how Abu Zayd reconstructs religious meaning within the context of sociopolitical realities. The findings reveal that Abu Zayd’s philosophy of language subverts literalist and hegemonic interpretations by promoting a dynamic, context-sensitive, and pluralistic reading of Islamic texts rooted in lived human experience. His hermeneutics exposes the embedded power relations in religious discourse and offers a critical lens for deconstructing interpretative authority. By foregrounding the role of language in shaping theological narratives, this study contributes to the decolonization of Islamic discourse and highlights Abu Zayd’s hermeneutics as a foundation for developing an emancipatory and pluralist Islamic theology, particularly relevant for Muslim communities beyond the dominant Arab-Western paradigms. This research contributes to the decolonization of Islamic studies by demonstrating how linguistic awareness and interpretive plurality can challenge hegemonic discourses, reclaim interpretative agency, and open new spaces for contextual and inclusive Islamic thought, especially within postcolonial Muslim societies.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the integration of religious-nationalist values in the learning of Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) at Islamic elementary schools (SD/MI), inspired by the thoughts of KH Saifuddin Zuhri. The study is motivated by the urgency of foundational education in shaping national character and spiritual awareness amid globalization and value crises. A qualitative approach was used through library research, analyzing KH Saifuddin Zuhri’s works and the IPAS curriculum in the Merdeka Curriculum. The findings indicate that the religious-nationalist paradigm advocated by KH Saifuddin Zuhri can serve as a conceptual model for integrative IPAS learning. This concept is relevant as it bridges Islamic values and patriotism within the themes of IPAS instruction. In conclusion, integrating religious-nationalist values not only enhances students' academic competence but also cultivates a moderate and nationally minded character aligned with the context of Islamic education in Indonesia
