Abstract

Previous studies have found that academic burnout occurred at all levels of education, including universities. Academic burnout is characterized by emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and a lack of confidence in students' abilities. Various variables can influence it, such as personality, well-being, and demographic factors. This research uses a correlational design to examine the relationship between personality and academic burnout among college students while exploring the role of psychological well-being as a mediator and demographic factors as a moderator. This design allows for the simultaneous collection of data from many individuals. We recruited 522 undergraduate students to participate in an online survey and used the Maslach-Student Burnout Inventory (MSBI), NEO Five-Factor Inventory (FFI), and Psychological Well-being Questionnaire for measurement. For data analysis, we used SPSS  version 25 and IBM SPSS AMOS version 24 to determine the mediation-moderation effect and tested the factor analysis of the proposed model. This research found a relationship between personality and academic burnout, with extraversion, agreeableness, conscientiousness, and openness to experience associated with low academic burnout. In contrast, neuroticism was associated with high academic burnout. Furthermore, the level of student psychological well-being was found to mediate the correlation between personality and academic burnout. Therefore, this study recommends that students, teachers, and parents pay attention to the importance of psychological well-being.

Abstract

Non-Muslim students studying at Islamic universities often face challenges, particularly with Islamic studies courses and Muslim dress code ethics. This situation creates a need for academic hardiness, allowing non-Muslim students to endure the academic pressures they encounter in such settings. One factor believed to contribute to the development of academic hardiness is self-acceptance. This research aims to examine the effect of self-acceptance on academic hardiness among non-Muslim students at an Islamic university. The subjects in this study are 104 active non-Muslim students at Universitas Islam Riau. The sampling technique used is nonprobability sampling, specifically snowball sampling. Data was collected using academic hardiness and self-acceptance scales. Data analysis was conducted using Partial Least Squares (PLS) with SmartPLS 3.0 software. The study results show a significant and positive effect of self-acceptance on academic hardiness among non-Muslim students at an Islamic university.

Abstract

Psychological well-being and academic resilience are crucial factors for students' success in higher education, contributing to both academic achievement and mental health. Therefore, it is essential to implement strategies aimed at enhancing students' psychological well-being and academic resilience. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of a cognitive-behavioral intervention and mindfulness relaxation integrated with Islamic values in improving students' psychological well-being and academic resilience. The research employed a mixed-methods approach. The quantitative component utilized an experimental design, specifically a non-equivalent control group design. The research subjects were divided into four groups, with a total of 70 participants. The instruments used for measurement including the Psychological Well-being Scale (α = 0.897) and the Academic Resilience Scale (α = 0.884). Data analysis was conducted using multivariate analysis of variance. In addition to the quantitative analysis, the qualitative method explored participants' feelings before and after the intervention. The study found no significant effect of the cognitive-behavioral intervention and mindfulness relaxation integrated with Islamic values on increasing psychological well-being and academic resilience across all experimental groups. However, qualitative data revealed that the intervention had a positive impact on students' psychological well-being and academic resilience. Overall, while the quantitative results did not show significant improvements, the qualitative feedback suggests that the intervention may still hold value in supporting students' mental health and resilience.
