Abstract

Introduction: In neonatal deaths, the WHO records an average of 18 neonatal deaths, maternal deaths in developing countries are related to pregnant women suffering from malnutrition such as KEK. Therefore, malnutrition in pregnant women must be avoided, making pregnant women a target group that requires special attention. There are countries experiencing KEK incidents in pregnant women that lead to maternal and child deaths, while Indonesia is one of the parameters for determining the nutritional status of pregnant women. Nutritional status greatly influences the growth and development of the fetus. Factors related to the nutritional status of pregnant women include maternal knowledge, maternal age, and economic status; these three aspects play a crucial role in meeting nutritional needs and making decisions related to nutritional status. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between nutritional status in pregnant women based on LILA (Upper Arm Circumference) measurements and birth weight. Method: This research uses a cross-sectional study approach. The population in this study consists of those who have given birth from 2021 to 2023 in the working area of Puskesmas Banggae 1. Sampling was conducted using the Total Sampling technique, with a sample size of 88 respondents. The instrument used for the independent and dependent variables was a checklist, specifically the Spearman Correlation test. Result: The Spearman Correlation test yielded a significance value of 0.000, less than 0.05, indicating a relationship. Conclusion: Thus, there is a relationship between Upper Arm Circumference and Birth Weight.

Abstract

Introduction: Measuring growth and detecting development in early childhood is necessary. One of the efforts made to identify nutritional problems in children is by measuring their weight and height. Measuring weight and height can provide an overview of a child's nutritional status, both past and present. Additionally, it allows for the assessment of current physical growth rate and nutritional status by reviewing weight measurement results. Malnutrition has adverse effects both in the short and long term. Children with malnutrition are more susceptible to illness. Children with malnutrition may also experience a decline in intelligence, which could lead to reduced productivity in the future Objective: The objective of this community service activity is to assess the nutritional status of toddlers based on their weight and height at the Al-Fattah Playgroup in Katumbangan Village. Method: The method used in this activity was to conduct a preliminary study. The health examination of toddlers was carried out on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, in Katumbangan Village, Campalagian Subdistrict, Polewali Mandar Regency, targeting toddlers in the Al-Fattah Playgroup. Result: The results of the community service activity showed that out of the 10 toddlers who attended the activity, only 2 were male male and 8 female. The results of the examination revealed the lowest weight of 9.1 kg in a 43-month-old child and a height of 84 cm. Conclusion: The conclusion drawn from the community service activities conducted at the Al-Fattah Playgroup in Katumbangan Village is that it can provide an overview of the nutritional status of infants based on their weight and height. Additionally, the results of this community service activity can serve as input for us collectively regarding the nutritional status of infants and toddlers, as assessed through measurements of weight and height, thereby providing insights for developing future interventions to address the identified issues.

Abstract

Introduction: Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in pregnant women is a nutritional problem that can seriously affect pregnancy and fetal growth, including the risk of low birth weight (LBW), prematurity, and stunting. In the working area of Limboro Community Health Center, there are still pregnant women with a mid-upper arm circumference (MUAC) <23.5 cm, which indicates CED. Objective: To improve the nutritional status of pregnant women at risk of CED through nutrition education and the provision of locally sourced supplementary food (PMT). Method: This activity was carried out through a preliminary study and counseling about the importance of nutritional status in pregnant women with CED, delivered using lectures, group discussions, presentations, and leaflets. In addition, supplementary food (PMT) was also provided. Result: The MUAC measurement results showed that 13 pregnant women (56%) did not experience CED, while 10 pregnant women (44%) were identified with CED. Nutrition education increased participants’ understanding of the importance of nutrition during pregnancy, and the supplementary food was well received. Conclusion: Community service activities conducted in the Limboro Community Health Center area demonstrate that nutrition education accompanied by supplementary food provision can improve the knowledge of pregnant women and support better nutritional status.
