Abstract

Critical land is caused by unsustainable land use and has an impact on decreasing the function of the land ecosystem. An effort to rehabilitate critical land can be carried out through the implementation of four-dimensional agroforestry (4D Agroforestry). The aims of this research were i) to design a 4D Agroforestry design, and ii) to analyze the growth of ginger (Zingiber officinale), pepper (Piper nigrum), cardamom (Amomum cardamomum), and grass jelly (Cyclea barbata) under the shade of mahogany (Swietenia mahagony) . The number of plants used was 67 ginger seeds, 44 pepper seeds, 187 grass jelly seeds, and 65 cardamom seeds, so the total was 363 plant seeds with an observation duration of 4 WAP. Implementation of 4D Agroforestry is an alternative effort to optimize land management by utilizing 4 dimensions, namely i) length dimension by planting mahogany, ii) width dimension by planting grass jelly (C. barbata), iii) height dimension by planting pepper ( P. nigrum), cassava (M. esculenta), ginger (Z. officinale), and cardamom (Amomum cardamomum), as well as iv) time dimensions for short-term production (production from cassava, grass jelly, ginger and cardamom plants ), medium (production from pepper plants), and long (production from mahogany wood) to achieve sustainable production. Cardamom plants produced the best growth in the parameters of height increase (15.28 cm) and percent survival (98.46%) after 4 WAP. Keywords: agroforestry, farmers, rehabilitation

Abstract

Aphelenchoides besseyi, a nematode, can infect rice resulting in the white shoot disease, which decreases the germina-tion rate and even causes seedling death. A. besseyi has recently been reported to mainly attack the organic rice varie-ties especially Pandanwangi and Ciherang in the Pasar Kawat, Beringin District, Deli Serdang, Indonesia. This research investigated A. besseyi via morphological, molecular, and morphometric approaches. The nematodes were observed in an area of 2000 m2, divided into five sample plots each with an area of 400 m2 on which Pandan Wangi and Ciherang rice were cultivated. Nematode morphology was observed using a stereo microscope at a 10–100x magnification. Mo-lecular identification employed PCR, followed by sequencing and phylogenetic analysis. This nematode possessed typ-ical morphological characteristics namely a longer female body (457.07–738.86 µm) than males (385.23–505.29 µm), and cured spicules, 17 to 21 µm long. The tail was ribbon-shaped with a tapered tip that had a mucrone with 2–4 points. Sequencing and phylogenetic analysis revealed that A. besseyi isolated from Indonesia (Deli Serdang/North Sumatra) was closely related to those from China, India, Russia, Taiwan, and Portugal with a 98% homology level.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how the leadership of the madrasa principal improves the professional teacher work ethic at MA Nurul Amin. This research is qualitative (case study). Research instruments using observation guides and interview guidelines. Data processing and analysis techniques were carried out through three stages: data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing, and data verification. The results of the study showed (1) the leadership of the madrasa head affected the work ethic of teachers (2) the improvement of the work ethic of teachers at MA Nurul Amin was quite good.
