Abstract

Anemia in teenagers can cause fatigue quickly, decreased study concentration resulting in low learning achievement and can reduce work productivity. Many factors influence the occurrence of anemia. One of the factors that influences the occurrence of anemia is iron deficiency. Foods that can increase iron absorption, especially nonheme iron, are vitamin C and certain animal protein sources, such as meat and fish. The aim of implementing this educational activity is to increase knowledge. This activity will be carried out from September 2023 to February 2024, starting with identifying partner problems and educational activities for young women. Material is provided through lectures, discussions with participants. Evaluation of young women's knowledge is assessed by conducting a pretest and posttest with the same questions. This activity was attended by 241 students of SMAS Adhyaksa 1 Jambi City. The results of the evaluation during the educational process showed that participants seemed enthusiastic about the counseling material, participants listened to the counseling carefully and participants asked questions regarding material that was unclear. Abstract

Anemia in adolescents is still an important topic because it can have short-term and long-term impacts. Many factors influence the occurrence of anemia. One factor that influences the occurrence of anemia is iron deficiency. Moringa leaves contain high levels of iron (Fe) which can be consumed fresh, in the form of tea or capsules and other processed products. Consumption of processed moringa leaves can be an alternative to prevent anemia in adolescent girls. This community service activity was carried out on grade XI students of SMAS Adhyaksa 1, Jambi City. Based on field observations, most adolescents did not know the benefits of moringa leaves and had not consumed moringa leaves. Based on the initial survey, the partner's problem was the problem of knowledge. The purpose of implementing this educational activity is to increase knowledge. PKM activities were carried out from March to August 2024, starting with identifying partner problems and educational activities for adolescent girls. The material was provided through lectures, demonstrations and discussions with participants. Evaluation was carried out using questionnaires in the form of pretests and posttests. This activity was attended by 113 male and female students of SMAS Adhyaksa 1, Jambi City. The results of the evaluation during the education process, participants seemed enthusiastic about the counseling material, participants listened to the counseling carefully and participants asked questions related to unclear material. The results of PKM showed an increase in participant knowledge from before the education activity and after the education activity by 2-3 points.

Abstract

Anemia is still a health problem, especially in developing countries, an estimated 30% of the world's population suffers from anemia, especially adolescent girls. Many factors cause anemia such as lack of iron, folic acid and vitamin B12, abnormal menstrual cycles, food management and the body's need for iron. To find out the factors that cause anemia in young women, research was conducted on the description of knowledge and factors that influence the occurrence of anemia. The research method used was descriptive to determine the description of the factors that influence anemia.  The population in this study was 229 people, the sample was 35 people, the sampling technique was random sampling, the instrument for measuring knowledge used a questionnaire, the data collected was analyzed univariately.  The results showed that the majority of 21 people (60%) had sufficient knowledge of young women, (14.28%) had good knowledge, 9 people (25.71%) had poor knowledge.  32 people (91.4%) of young women did not consume blood supplement tablets and only 3 people (8.57%) consumed blood supplement tablets regularly. Lack of compliance among teenagers in consuming blood-added tablets makes it possible for teenagers to feel that they do not experience symptoms of anemia and when consuming blood-added tablets they feel nauseous, the medicine smells fishy.  The conclusion of the research is that the picture of adolescent girls regarding anemia is due to the knowledge factor so that the level of adherence of adolescents to consuming blood supplement tablets is low, it is necessary to provide continuous education and check Hb levels regularly.

Abstract

The World Health Organization (WHO) in 2013 stated that anemia is one of the health problems worldwide, especially in developing countries. As many as 30% of the world's population is estimated to suffer from anemia, especially adolescents and pregnant women. The prevalence of anemia in adolescents in the world ranges from 40% -88%. The 2018 Riskesdas report stated that the prevalence of anemia in Indonesia is around 22.2% in the age group ≥ 15 years. The prevalence of anemia in urban adolescent girls in Jambi Province is 9.0%. Anemia causes a decrease in reproductive health function, inhibits the development of intelligence, motor skills and mental which results in decreased learning achievement. If adolescent girls suffer from anemia from the start, it will be very dangerous for pregnancy and childbirth if they later marry and become mothers. One of the factors that influences the occurrence of anemia is iron deficiency. Foods that can increase the absorption of iron, especially non-heme iron, are vitamin C and certain sources of animal protein, such as meat and fish. Handling anemia with food ingredients is still rarely done even though it has great potential to prevent anemia, especially in adolescent girls. This study aims to determine the description of the use of local food to prevent anemia in adolescent girls. This research method is descriptive research with a cross-sectional approach. The population of this study were all female students at SMAS Adhyaksa 1 Jambi City with a sample of 31 people using the Slovin formula. Samples were taken using a simple random sampling technique. This study was conducted from October 2023 to August 2024 at SMAS Adhyaksa 1 Jambi. The results showed that almost half of the female adolescents often (1x/day) consume protein (41.9%), vegetables 3-6x/week (48.4%), fruits 3-6x/week (45.2%). More than half of the female adolescents never consume iron tablets (58.1%) and tea/coffee with meals (54.8%). A small number of female adolescents rarely consume milk (38.7%). Local foods for preventing anemia that are most widely consumed by female adolescents at SMAS Adhyaksa 1 are red meat (animal protein source), tempeh (vegetable protein source), spinach (vegetables) and oranges (fruits). It is hoped that schools can increase education about the use of local food to prevent anemia and for young women, they can increase their intake of diverse local food to prevent anemia from occurring early on.

Abstract

Menstrual pain (dysmenorrhea) is a health problem often experienced by fertile women and can disrupt daily activities. The prevalence of dysmenorrhea in Indonesia is quite high, with 54.98% primary dysmenorrhea and 9.36% secondary dysmenorrhea. The use of natural ingredients such as ginger is a popular alternative because ginger contains high levels of essential oils and the chemical content of gingerol in ginger can block prostaglandins, thereby reducing pain during menstruation. Ginger is also readily available and inexpensive. This study aims to determine the effect of ginger water on dysmenorrhea pain in adolescent girls in the Danausipin sub-district of Jambi City. The research method used was a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-post test. The sample was 22 adolescent girls who experienced menstrual pain and were willing to be respondents. Menstrual pain was measured before and after ginger water administration using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). The results of the study showed that before the intervention, 50% of the pain scale felt was mild and moderate menstrual pain, after the intervention, 22.7% did not experience pain and 63.6% experienced mild pain. There was an effect of giving ginger water on reducing menstrual pain with a P value of 0.000. Ginger water can be used as an alternative natural treatment for menstrual pain

Abstract

Menstruation is a process of shedding the inner lining of the uterine wall that occurs periodically in women of childbearing age. During menstruation, most young women experience discomfort such as stomach cramps caused by uterine muscle contractions due to an increase in the hormone prostaglandin, pain during menstruation/dysmenorrhea can cause anxiety and disruption of activities. Pain can be treated with pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies, one of which is acupressure on acupuncture points to relieve pain. This community service aims to provide knowledge and ways to overcome pain during menstruation with acupressure at the SP6 (Sayinjiao), Li4 (Hequ) and ST36 (Zusanli) acupuncture points. The method used is a question and answer lecture and showing the location of acupuncture points and practicing acupressure. Before being given education, the students' level of knowledge about menstruation and how to deal with menstrual disorders was first assessed, then the pain scale during menstruation was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). The second stage is the delivery of material about menstruation and menstrual disorders (dysminorrhea) and acupressure to treat dysmenorrhea. As well as practicing acupressure, the third stage is a posttest to measure the students' knowledge after being given education and practicing acupressure. This community service will be carried out at SMAIT AL-Azhar Jambi City. with 75 respondents. The results of community service activities showed an increase in knowledge before being given education, an average of 37 people (49.3%) in the sufficient category (score 60-75), and after being given education, there was an increase in knowledge on average ≥ 76 or good knowledge of 45 people. (60%), female students can also practice acupressure to reduce pain during menstruation. This acupressure can be done independently, easily, anytime, anywhere without any side effects or costs

Abstract

The prevalence of anemia in adolescent girls is increasing, so other efforts are needed for prevention. One of the factors that influence the occurrence of anemia is iron deficiency. Handling anemia with food ingredients is still rarely done even though it has great potential to prevent anemia, especially in adolescent girls. Based on field observations, there are still adolescents who have signs and symptoms of anemia, education has been carried out regarding anemia but the role of adolescents in preventing anemia has not been active. The community service activity in the form of "Empowerment of Anti-Anemia Adolescents in Anemia Prevention Based on the Utilization of Local Foods at SMAS Adhyaksa 1" based on a mini workshop was carried out from March to August 2025 for students sent by PIK-R SMAS Adhyaksa 1 Jambi City. The purpose of this community service activity is to increase knowledge and change the attitudes of adolescent cadres about anemia prevention based on the utilization of local foods and the formation of anti-anemia adolescent cadres at SMAS Adhyaksa 1 Jambi City. The number of participants in the mini workshop consisted of 8 PIK-R female students for 1 day, given through lectures, simulations, discussions, questions and answers and Hb level screening on August 15, 2025. The material was delivered in the form of a simulation of early detection of signs and symptoms of anemia among peers using a checklist and a simulation of Hb level examination using a Hbmeter. In addition, it was also equipped with a pocket book "anti-anemia youth cadres" and a leaflet of recipes for making food made from moringa and patin. Before and after the mini workshop, a pretest and posttest were conducted to assess knowledge and attitudes about early detection of signs and symptoms of anemia and its prevention by utilizing local food. The PKM results showed that the average pre-test score of participants was 6.875 while the posttest results showed that the average score of participants was 9.375, there was a difference/difference of 2-3 points from the pretest and posttest results meaning that participants experienced an increase in knowledge and skills after being educated. It is necessary to optimize the role of youth cadres for local food-based anemia prevention
