Abstract

Insomnia is difficulty to sleep that makes people feel not enough sleep when awakened caused by one or multifactorial. Nurses who work with shift mechanism will experience a disruption of circadian rhythms. Stressor-stressor in the work environment also have an impact on irregular sleep patterns and lifestyles such as caffeine and lack of exercise. Insomnia can affect a decrease in workers work performance, productivity and quality of work, relationships at work, decreased alertness, disruptions in family life and increases the risk of accidents. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between age, shift work, workload, work stress, caffeine, and exercise habits with insomnia in nurses. This study uses a cross-sectional design. The location of research in hospitals DR.Soedarso Pontianak. Samples are 66 respondents taken by simple random sampling technique. Using the Chi-Square test with a confidence level of 95%. The results showed a significant relationship between shift work (p value = 0.014; PR = 2.74, 95% CI = 1.01 to 7.42), caffeine (p value = 0.000; PR = 6.23, 95 % CI = 2.51 to 15.46), exercise habits (p value = 0.048; PR = 1.615, 95% CI = 1.01 to 2.57) with insomnia in nurses. Variables that are not associated with insomnia in nurses are age (p value = 0.292; PR = 0.39, 95% CI = 0.07 to 2.19), workload (p value = 0.387; PR = 0.80, 95 % CI = 0.54 to 1.18), job stress (p value = 0.374; PR = 1.30, 95% CI = 0.80 to 2.12). It is suggested to hospital management to implement policies optimal for each nurse to not change the shift schedule that has been set to avoid the occurrence of work shifts sequentially mainly shift night work, reduce the amount of consumption of caffeinated beverages and regularly exercise at least 3 times a week with a duration of 30 minutes - 1 hour per day.Key words: shift work, caffein, sports, insomnia, nurse.

Abstract

Golfer elbow or medial epicondylitis is irritation of the tendon that causes the tendon tears; the pronator teres muscle and flexor carpi radialis muscle. These are induced by the2repetitive movements, hand arm vibration and aggravated by the attitude of a static work. Also, lifting up the workload continuously and holding vibratory a working tool trigger this irritation. This study was aimed at analyzing the repetitive movement and hand arm vibration towards epicondylitis medial (golfer elbow) incidence among Bigland mattress makers at PT. Dayak Lestari EkaniagaAn observational method and a cross sectional approach were carried out in this study. The samples were 45 Bigland mattress makers. The data collecting technique employed primary and secondary data. While the data collecting tools used were stopwatch, hand arm vibratiaon meter (havm), questionnaires, observation sheets, scales, and tape measure. The study revealed that there were correlation of repetitive movement Pvalue=0,041, hand arm vibration Pvalue=0,017, and epicondylitis medial (golfer elbow) incidence. From the findings, the director of PT. Dayak Lestari Ekaniaga should minimize the risk of repetitive motion and hand arm vibration, such as tightening bolts or loosing ties on the machine. It can be done by conducting regular training, encouraging the workers to have exercise before working and providing Personal Protective Equipment or PPE. In addition, employees are expected to be more aware on the importance of controlling the dangers of repetitive movements and hand arm vibration. Least but not, further researchers are encourage to develop and accomplish this study.Key Words : (Repetitive), (Hamd Arm Vibration), (Golfer elbow).

Abstract

Working on a computer with a long sitting position causes sense of fatigue in the skeletal muscles, especially the buffer such as the spine, thighs, and calves. Musculoskeletal disorders are divided into two, namely temporary and permanent complaints. WHO indicated that musculoskeletal disorders are considered as the major occupational illnesses (48%). This study aimed at discovering the factors related to MSDs among computer users at head office of Bank X, Pontianak City. Using analytical observation method and cross sectional design, as many as 84 employees participated in this study. They were selected by using purposive sampling technique. The data were statistically analyzed by using chi square test. The study revealed two findings. First, there were correlation of sex (p value=0,013;CC=0,307), relaxation (p value=0,000;CC=0,553), the use of hour break for working (p value=0,013;CC=0,348), exercise habit (p value=0,006;CC=0,327), extra working hours (p value=0,028;CC=0,281) length/ height and seat height compatibility (p value=0,005;CC=0,332), and MSDs complaints. Second there were no correlation of age (p value=0,399), working period (p value=1,000), IMT (p value=1,000), and MSDs complaint. However, arm ’s reach could not be tested as the data were homogeneous. From the findings, the company is encouraged to conduct health program and work place evaluation by providing office health clinic. This program is important to give health services to the employees such as disease treatment and to realize the ergonomic work station design.Key words: computers users, MSDs, Bank
