Abstract

Fifth-grade students' interest in learning science varies. There were high, good, medium and low. However, their average interest in learning was still relatively low. This study aims to find out the role of teachers in increasing students' interest in learning, supporting and inhibiting factors, and how to overcome them. We conducted descriptive-qualitative research. Data was obtained through interviews, observations and questionnaires. Then, it was analyzed using the main phases of data analysis: data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusions. We found the role of teachers in increasing students' interest in learning, namely as educators, mentors, motivators, mediators, facilitators and evaluators. The supporting factors were educators, facilities and student conditions. Meanwhile, there were various inhibiting factors, namely lack of parental assistance and lack of appreciation for student achievement. Efforts to overcome these obstacles were by collaborating with teachers and parents and giving appreciation to students who excel. Keywords : Teacher’s role, interest in learning, science learning

Abstract

Keaktifan siswa dalam proses pembelajaran merupakan aspek krusial yang menentukan keberhasilan pendidikan1. Salah satu metode yang efektif untuk meningkatkan keaktifan siswa adalah metode time token, yang memberikan penghargaan berupa token atas partisipasi siswa2. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melakukan tinjauan sistematis terhadap literatur mengenai penerapan metode time token dalam pembelajaran Ilmu Pengetahuan Sosial (IPS) selama lima tahun terakhir3. Hasil tinjauan menunjukkan bahwa metode time token efektif dalam meningkatkan motivasi, partisipasi, dan hasil belajar siswa4. Penelitian ini juga mengidentifikasi berbagai jenis time token yang digunakan, seperti kupon bicara dan media pembelajaran, serta cara implementasinya di kelas. Temuan ini memberikan implikasi penting bagi guru, siswa, peneliti, dan pembuat kebijakan dalam meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran IPS. Abstract

This research investigates the implementation of picture media in Social Studies (IPS) learning for fourth-grade students at SD Inpres 9 Duriankari, Sorong Regency. The study employed a qualitative approach with field research methods to describe the implementation and its effect on students' learning interest. Data was collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires. The findings reveal that the use of picture media was systematically planned and implemented, aligning with effective media utilization principles. Picture media effectively visualized abstract concepts, increased student engagement, and positively influenced learning motivation and focus. The integration of picture media with varied teaching methods is recommended to optimize the learning process. Abstract

his study aims to examine and empirically describe the implementation of the Snowball Throwing learning model in improving student learning activeness in Social Studies (IPS) for Grade V students at SD Negeri 15 Sorong Regency. The background of the problem is the low enthusiasm and minimal active involvement of students due to the dominance of conventional, teacher-centered methods, especially in the context of IPS subjects. Student activeness is considered the key to learning success, requiring varied and participatory strategies. Snowball Throwing, a cooperative model that integrates group work with an imaginative question ball game, is an innovative solution to encourage active participation, communication, and collaboration among students. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Data was collected in June 2023 through observation of classroom activities using the Snowball Throwing model, interviews with the principal, IPS teachers, and students, and documentation of relevant archives (RPP, photos, etc.). The implementation was carried out in seven systematic stages, focusing on changing the student's role from passive listening to active discussion and question generation. The results show that the implementation of the Snowball Throwing model was successful in significantly increasing student learning activeness. This success is evidenced by the fulfillment of eight indicators of student activeness, including participation in assignments, problem-solving, active questioning, and group discussion. Although there were challenges, such as the drastically reduced class time (from 3x45 minutes to 40 minutes ) and disturbances from peers , the activeness increased substantially from the first to the second meeting. Students reported that the model was fun, reduced boredom, and made the IPS material easier to understand, fostering greater responsibility and confidence in expressing opinions. This confirms that the model effectively stimulates concrete activeness and participation in the classroom. Keywords : Snowball Throwing, Learning Activeness, Social Studies
