Abstract

Abstract

Cayenne pepper is a commodity that is quite high in demand in Indonesia. The problem in chili nurseries is to ensure that the plants grow vigor after the transplanting process is carried out. For this reason, it is necessary to provide vitamins to accelerate the adaptation process so that chili plants can grow optimally. To overcome this problem, in this study the application of vitamin B1 (thiamine) was carried out at the beginning of transplanting cayenne pepper seedlings from the nursery. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the application of vitamin B1 on cayenne pepper seeds and the best concentration of vitamin B1. This research will be carried out for three months, from early June to the end of August 2023. The research will be conducted in Kelurhan Sidomulyo, Kecamatan Medan Tuntungan, Kota Medan. The research design was a completely randomized design with 1 factor and 3 replications. The treatment factor was the concentration of vitamin B1 with 4 levels. V0: control; V1: 0.5 ml/l vitamin B1; V2: 1 ml/l vitamin B1; and V3: 1.5 ml/l vitamin B1. The results showed that the administration of vitamin B1 (thiamine) during transplanting had an effect on the growth of cayenne pepper seedlings.

Abstract

This study aims to modify the design of a coffee bean huller machine to enhance the efficiency and quality of the hulling process. The background of this research lies in the importance of agricultural technology development in improving productivity and the quality of agricultural products, particularly in coffee processing. Existing huller machines have several drawbacks such as low hulling efficiency and damage to the coffee beans produced.  The methodology employed in this research includes literature review, user needs analysis, conceptual modification design, prototype fabrication, and machine performance testing. Various technical aspects such as machine speed, hulling design, and pressure adjustment mechanisms were considered in the modification process. The results of the study show that modifications to the huller machine design can improve the efficiency of the coffee bean hulling process and reduce bean damage. Performance testing of the machine prototype yielded increase in efficiency compared to conventional huller machines. Additionally, the quality of the coffee beans produced also improved, with lower levels of damage. Thus, the modification of the huller machine design has the potential to enhance productivity and quality in the coffee bean hulling process, contributing positively to agricultural technology development in the coffee plantation sector.

Abstract

Mustard plants are vegetables favored by people in Indonesia, they have nutritional value, are delicious, and are rich in protein, which is good and needed by the human body, vitamins A, B, and L-ascorbic acid. This study was conducted to determine the effect of organic, and inorganic fertilizers and their interaction on the growth and yield of mustard plants, carried out at UPTD. BIHedung Johor Medan, October 2023 to January 2024. Using RAK factorial 2 factors, I. dosage Organic fertilizer (organic) (A) 4 levels: A0 = 0 kg/plot (control), A1 = 1.5 kg/plot, A2 = 2 kg/plot, and A3 = 2.5 kg/plot. II Inorganic fertilizer dose (ANORGANIC) (N) 4 levels: N0 = 0 g/plot (control), N1 = 50 g/plo, N2 = 100 g/plot, and N3 = 150 g/plot. The results of his research from organic fertilizers were insignificant for plant height 7-28 HST, number of leaves 7-21 HST and 28 HST. The real effect is gross weight/sample, net weight/sample, gross weight/plot, and net weight/plot. Inorganic fertilizer (ANORGANIK) has a very real effect on plant height 21-18 HST, number of leaves 14 HST and 21-28 HST, leaf width, leaf length, gross weight/sample, net weight/sample, gross weight/plot, and net weight/plot. The interaction effect was very significant in plant height 7 HST, number of leaves 21, 28 HST, leaf width, leaf length, gross weight/sample, net weight/sample, gross weight/plot, and net weight/plot.

Abstract

Palm oil and red palm oil are food ingredients that are rich in essential nutrients such as vitamin E and carotene. This study aims to analyze the levels of vitamin E and carotene in red palm oil and palm oil after deep fat frying with different temperature variations. The deep fat frying process was carried out at temperatures of 32°C, 180°C, 230°C and 280°C to determine the effect of temperature on the nutritional content. Analysis of vitamin E content was carried out using the UV-Vis spectrophotometry method, while analysis of carotene levels was carried out using the spectrophotometry method. The results showed that there was a decrease in vitamin E and carotene levels in both types of oil along with increasing frying temperature. A more significant decrease occurred at temperatures from 32°C to 180°C compared to temperatures from 230°C and 280°C. In addition, red palm oil has higher levels of vitamin E and carotene compared to palm oil at all temperature variations. These findings indicate the importance of considering temperature in the frying process to minimize nutrient loss in cooking oil, especially in oils with high vitamin E and carotene content such as red palm oil.
