Abstract

Infrastructure development is absolutely necessary to improve Indonesia’s economic growth which carries the principles of pro-poor, pro growth, and pro-jobs. However, the conditions of each region are different so that these objectives are always accompanied by inequality in development outcomes. This study maps areas that experience inequality into a composite index using factor analysis. This composite index was built based on the development of methods by the OECD. The results showed that Indeks Pembangunan Infrastruktur (IPI) was a valid measure. Seven provinces are categorized as inadequate located in Kalimantan and eastern Indonesia. The seven provinces have infrastructure and health and economic dimensions below the national average.

Abstract

Various efforts to overcome poverty have been carried out by the government but the number of poor people is still quite high. Based on the 1945 Constitution, the Indonesian government has a mandate to realize social welfare for all people. Well-being is characterized by the fulfillment of the material, spiritual, and social needs of citizens. In other words, prosperity can be achieved through poverty alleviation. In alleviating poverty, existing policies have not interpreted the poverty line based on division in Indonesia. This study analyzes more deeply the role of urban and rural poverty lines in the division of regions in Indonesia. The method used is descriptive statistics by grouping provinces into 7 categories of large islands in Indonesia. In addition, the MANOVA analysis method was also used in this study to answer the role of the region on the size of the poverty line. What is interesting about this study is the finding that regional differences play a significant role in influencing the size of the poverty line. This research also revealed the fact that the poverty line gap between regional categories is wide at a significance level below 0.05 in the MANOVA test of between subjects effects.

Abstract

The leading exports of the island provinces still rely on primary goods rather than derivative goods. The exploitation of nature continues to be a strategy for island regions to enhance economic growth, but this approach does not promote a sustainable economy. This research aims to further describe the export commodities that remain dominant in provinces with archipelagic topography and to examine in greater detail the impact of these export activities on environmental resilience. The research methodology employs panel data regression with the Environmental Quality Index (EQI) serving as the dependent variable. The analysis reveals that economic activities, particularly exports, collectively influence the EQI. Furthermore, the research findings indicate a tendency for a weak relationship between superior commodity export activities and labor absorption.

Abstract

One of the economic recovery strategies after Covid-19 pandemi in Indonesia, especially Sumatra, is to focus on the development of the real sector. Tourism and creative economy (parekraf) industry is a form of transformation of the real sector with good prospects. The question of this research is whether the parekraf industry plays a role in the economic recovery of the real sector in Sumatra Island. The methods used to answer the above questions are multiple linear regression and descriptive statistics. In addition, the cluster analysis method is also used in this study to answer which provinces need priority development of the parekraf industry. An interesting finding from this study is that the parekraf industry has played a role in restoring Sumatra's economy after Covid-19, which is proved by the significance level of 0.025. Another interesting finding is that that provinces with archipelago topography, i.e. Riau Islands and Bangka Belitung Islands, give higher economic contribution to GDRP than non-archipelago provinces in Sumatra Island.
