Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of adding clay-based ceramic material sand to physical strength using bending, density, and porosity testing methods. In this study using clay and sand with a volume fraction of clay: sand ie 90:10 %, 80:20 %, 70:30 %, 60: 40 % and 50:50 % printed using mold rectangular size 50 mm long, 8 mm wide and 7 mm thick, then the compaction process is carried out with a pressure of 175 kgf/cm2 or 2500 psi, then the sintering process is carried out at a temperature of 800 OC for 1 hour. The tests carried out are density, porosity and bending tests. The results showed that the density value of the volume fraction of 80:20 % obtained the highest average density value of 0.513 gr/cm³, and the volume fraction of 50:50 % obtained the lowest average density value of 0.458 gr/cm³. In porosity testing with a volume fraction of 50: 50 %, the highest porosity value was 67.619 %, and the volume fraction of 80:20 % obtained the lowest porosity value of 44.381 %. And for bending testing, the effect of volume fraction on bending strength obtained the highest bending strength value of 0.516 N/mm² for the volume fraction of 80: 20 % and the lowest bending strength value obtained with a value of 0.075 N/mm² for 50: 50 % volume fraction. Keywords: Sintering, density, porosity, bending, ceramic

Abstract

Rice husks and cashew nuts have an economical value of where can be transformed into an energy form one of them is briquette. This research aims to determine the influence of pressure composition on thermal characteristics of rice husk charcoal briquettes and cashew skin. In this study, the composition of the tested is briquette with a ratio of the raw material percentage of rice husk 30 % cashew skin 70 %, rice husk 50 % cashew skin 50 % and rice husk 70 % cashew bark 30%. The manufacture of briquette was performed pressure 50 kgf/cm2, 100 kgf/cm2, 150 kgf/cm2. The thermal testing of briquettes is carried out in a cylinder combustion furnace designed for natural airflow. In combustion testing used three briquettes for each composition. During the combustion, observations of the mass decline and increase in the fuel temperature increased by 1 minute using digital scales and K-Type Thermocouple. The results showed that the composition of mixing 30% rice husk: 70% cashew skin has the highest combustion temperature increase and the rate of decline in mass and long combustion at 50 kgf/cm2 pressure that the decline in the speed of the most rapid combustion of each minute is on the mixing briquette that has a composition of 30 % rice husk and 70 % cashew skin. Keywords: briquette, rice husk, and cashew skin

Abstract

With the increasing population, the need for fuel also increases so that otheralternative sources are needed. One of the renewable energy that needs attention to be developed is agricultural waste such as rice husks, coconut shells, cashew skins, sago fronds, cocoa shells, and other agricultural or plantation waste. This study aims to determine the characteristics of the cocoa pod briquettes and cashew nut shells. The method used in this research is to use variations in pressure at the time of printing, the pressure used is 50 kg/cm2, 100 kg/cm2 and 150 kg/cm2. The characteristics of the briquettes tested were density, moisture content, ash content, heating value and rate of combustion. The results showed that the highest density was 0.91 kg/cm3 with a pressure of 150 kg/cm2 , the highest water content value was 13.84 % with a pressure of 50 kg/cm2 , the highest ash content was 5.16 % at a pressure of 150 kg/cm2, the value of The highest heat is 6024.33 Cal/g with a pressure of 150 kg/cm2, and the longest burning rate is 44 minutes with a pressure of 150 kg/cm2. So it can be concluded that the higher the compacting pressure during printing, the higher the value of density, ash content, heating value, combustion rate and moisture content value are getting better. Keywords: Briquettes, compaction, cocoa skin, cashew seed skin

Abstract

At this time, fuel oil has become a basic need by the Indonesian people due to the increase in the use of vehicles, while the government is still subsidizing fuel oil. For this reason, it is necessary to save on the use of fuel oil. The alternative that can be done  is  reformulating  fuel  oil  with  additives  that  function  to  enrich  the  oxygen content in the fuel. The purpose of this study is to determine the performance of the engine which can be seen from the fuel consumption and acceleration of the vehicle in which the percentage of clove oil mixing which is most effective in its use will be known. This research includes mixing 1.5%, 2.5%, 3.5% and 4.5% mixture of clove  oil  to  premium/gasoline.  In  this  study,  the  formulation  of  a  premium fuel/gasoline  mixture  with  clove  oil  was  most  effective  and  efficient  on  fuel consumption, namely in the stationary test it was a mixture of 1.5% while in the running test it was a mixture of 2.5%. For the acceleration test, the best mixing formulation is in the 4.5% mixture formulation, both in the 0-70 km and 40-70 km tests.

Abstract

The machining process is a manufacturing process where the main process is to release or remove some of the material from a basic material which can be in the form of a shaft so that it meets the desired shape and quality. The purpose of this study was to determine the value of Unit Herse Power on the Depth  of Cut turning process on medium carbon steel material. The study used medium carbon steel material in the form of a cylinder with an initial diameter of 40 mm and a length of 150 mm. The cylindrical workpiece is turned at a speed of 185 rpm and the depth of cut is varied by 1 mm, 1.5 mm and 2 mm. The results showed that the depth of pressing of the lathe has an  effect on the greater the depth of feeding in the turning process, the smaller the UHP value produced. Where the Horse Power Unit for the highest feed depth is at 1 mm with a UHP value of 1.371091 and into the lowest feed there is a 2 mm feed with a UHP value of 0.685546, and through a lathe rotation of 185 rpm which is given to the workpiece very affect the magnitude of the resulting UHP value where the UHP value is the result of feeding a chisel that is installed or used on a lathe.  Keywords: Lathe process, medium carbon steel, feed depth.
