Abstract

In the span of one year, there has been an increasing number of complaints from parents and teachers about the adverse effects of gadgets. Complaints of the detrimental impacts of gadget addiction include children becoming lazy, irritable, lacking independence, irresponsible with schoolwork, and having shorter attention span compared to similar-aged children. The increasing number of complaints from parents and school teachers regarding the behaviour of students who are addicted to gadgets became the reason for the team to reintroduce traditional game play activities with friends and teachers in school. Several studies have shown that traditional games have numerous benefits, particularly to stimulate children's cognitive, social, and personality development. Therefore, the team strived to provide alternative games for students so as to help students reap the benefits of playing. The result of this activity indicates that traditional games could be alternative games to gadgets, which are beneficial for affective, cognitive, and motor development of children and act as the means to introduce children to the norms upheld in the society. To optimize the development of affective, cognitive, motor skills, and instill the norms in society, utilizing traditional games needs to be done by the school.

Abstract

Background: Mental health literacy is currently very much needed considering the high rates of psychological issues in Indonesia and the stigma that still exists towards individuals with psychological issues. The emergence of the Korean Wave in Indonesia has made Korean dramas one of the potential media for enhancing mental health literacy. Objective: This research aims to analyze the content (characters, setting, visual codes, and key messages) related to mental health that conveyed through the drama “Daily Dose of Sunshine”. Methods: This study uses a qualitative method with John Fiske's semiotic analysis, including analysis at the levels of reality, representation, and ideology. Results: The reality analysis focuses on visual elements, display code, dress code, makeup code, how-to-speak code, gesture code, expression code, and environment code that depict the interaction between health workers, mental health clinic patients, and their families. The representation analysis focuses on the dialogue analysis, which contains key messages about mental health. The representation analysis results indicate six key messages conveyed through the dialogue between health workers and individuals with psychological disorders. In the ideology analysis, key mental health messages were found, including the importance of managing stress for mental health; the importance of seeking professional mental health help; the issue of stigma towards people with psychological disorders; the dangers of self-diagnosis; the role of family in supporting the recovery of individuals with psychological disorders; and the notion that anyone can experience psychological disorders. Conclusion: From this study, it can be seen that Korean dramas are a form of edutainment media that can disseminate key mental health messages to a broad audience. Therefore, it is hoped that there will be further development of health promotion media in the form of series to promote health issues in Indonesia, particularly regarding mental health and well-being.

Abstract

Depression, anxiety, and stress in adolescents require therapy as these conditions are likely to cause harm to both the individuals experiencing them and their surroundings. Therefore, it is important to create an intervention for this age group. E-Group Art Journal Therapy is an intervention which involves art as its approach and is conducted in groups through an online platform, Zoom Meeting. In this study, ten participants were divided into two groups: the control group and the experimental group. Participants were recruited through non-random sampling using these criteria: they were required to be active students, reside in Bali, be between 18-23 years old, have a moderate level of stress, moderate level of anxiety, low level of depression based on Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS), and agree to participate in the study. This study employed a mixed method which produced both quantitative and qualitative data that were analyzed with Wilcoxon rank-sum test and theoretical coding. The results showed that there were score differences between the control group and the experimental group in terms of depression, anxiety, and stress levels. Qualitatively, there were also psychological changes among the five participants from the experimental group. Implementing an intervention in groups could be beneficial because the group activities created mutual situations. Creating artwork also contributed to therapeutic processes. Quantitatively, there was a significant decrease in depression score. Qualitatively, E-GAJT encouraged the participants to believe in their potential despite their upbringing in an unsupportive environment. This encouragement fostered greater courage, enabling them to take steps toward achieving goals and creating healthier boundaries. Keyword: Adolescent, DASS; group; psychotherapy; virtual.
