Abstract

The Malaysian government has taken the initiative of implementing Industrialised Building System (IBS) in which components are manufactured in mass production under a controlled environment (on or off site), transported, positioned and assembled into a structure with minimal additional site works. It is hope that IBS can improve the performance of construction industry. However, one of the main barriers in Malaysian IBS implementation is lack of integration among stakeholder involved during the project delivery stage. In order to overcome this barrier, a new collaborative procurement or project delivery namely as Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) which is using a multi-party contract (more than two parties selected) has been introduced. Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) is defined as a project delivery approach that integrates people, systems, business structures and practices into a process that collaboratively harnesses the talents and insights of all project participants to optimise the results, increase value to the owner, reduce waste, and maximize efficiency through all phases of design, fabrication and construction. Although, many researchers have argue the importance of IPD in project delivery process, but the readiness of construction industries must be established. This research has used a quantitative research process that involved a few phases including literature review stage, data collection stage, framework development stage, validation and recommendation stage. This research is to obtain data based on multidisciplinary IBS stakeholders perspectives, respondent include project managers, resident engineers, architects and contractors are among the potential candidates. Respondents that directly involved in the construction industry mentioned that their firms are willing to change and implement IPD. The firm s readiness recorded at the moderate mean value. It can be noted that each firm involved as respondents are ready to implement.

Abstract

Fragmentation or the separated working environment has been a major hinderance to effective collaboration among construction industry players and these has been mainly blamed upon the wasteful conventional working practice. Supply Chain Management (SCM), which hold tightly on the notion of collaboration being among its most important enabler and has also proven to contribute to many important elements of an effective collaboration such as better trust, transparency, knowledge sharing, pain-gain sharing etc.; has therefore been promoted to overcome the problem via numerous Collaborative Tools it has to offer. This paper presents part of an on-going research aimed at using SCM Tools to overcome delay and definitely collaboration is an aspect that needs improvement. After conducting a comprehensive literature reviews on past proposal and applications, a number of SCM Collaborative Tools have been identified, elaborated and discussed in this paper; which is expected to serve as a guide towards adopting SCM into construction project practices and thus, achieve the benefits it has to offer. Some of them have been applied in major projects and experienced success hence, deserve more appreciation by the construction world.

Abstract

Many companies implement lean six sigma (LSS) approach aiming to improve business performance. However, not many companies can be benefited from this program as the implementation is not easy to be executed effectively. Thus, the objective of this study is to identify the important factors in LSS implementation and its relation on operational performance (OP) of the business. This study employed quantitative survey with structured questionnaire. Random sampling was used and the sample of this study was SME manufacturing companies which has implemented LSS approach. A set of questionnaires were sent out to 200 companies through email and targeted to LSS practitioners such as managing director, quality manager and production manager. Finally, 63 response have been received with 32% response rate. Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) 22.0 version software was used to evaluate descriptive and the relationship between variables. This research studies the role of three factors in LSS implementation, which are management engagement and leadership, lean six sigma competency, and effective training and education. The findings revealed that there is a significant relationship between LSS factors with OP. Management engagement and leadership was the most perceived important factor in LSS implementation. This research model serve as a practical guide which can assist the company to achieve better operational business performance.

Abstract

Over the decade, the level of risk management has always been lingering in every construction industry sectors. Therefore, this research deeply investigated the level of risk management among Kuantan Malaysian construction industries to better promote effectiveness on risk management implementation within the industry. To address this issues, this study makes use of statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS) approach to validate construction risk management (CRM) as a construct from registered Grade-7 contractors operating in Malaysia point of view. With a cross-sectional survey and proportionate stratified random sampling techniques, data were gathered from 87 G-7 contractors through a structured questionnaire. Methodologically, this research perhaps might be the first to determine the level of risk management where Kuantan Malaysian construction industries belong to. Using the five-point Likert scale categories (very low, low, medium, high and very high) of risk management from previous studies, statistical analysis affirmed that the overall level of risk management among Kuantan Malaysian construction industries is at the high level.

Abstract

Information systems are a combination of information technology and human activities that use technology to support operations and management. Tourism is a travel activity carried out by a person or group of people to an interesting place. One of the famous tourist and cultural attractions in Indonesia is Yogyakarta, especially Bantul Regency, which has very rich and diverse tourism and cultural potential. Limited access to information is a major obstacle for tourists and local people who want to explore Bantul Regency. To overcome this problem, a Tourism and Cultural Information System is needed that can facilitate visitors and the public in accessing information easily, accurately, and up to date. The benefits of the system are that the information presented in the application helps in efforts to preserve and promote local tourism and culture. and tourists can plan their trips well, including travel routes to tourist attractions and culture. Data collection methods by conducting observations, interviews, literature studies and research methods using the Waterfall method. The results of the system testing run well and the expected appearance and results are as expected.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to empirically investigate impact of transformational and transactional leadership on employees’ creativity and employee empowerment in this association. Over the past many decades, employees have become an organizing way of coordinating work within organization. This trend creates new challenges for leaders, as they are expected to improve their creativity simultaneously. This study proposes a conceptual framework for understanding leadership styles and employees’ empowerment to individual employees which would influence creativity. The conceptual framework includes employees’ empowerment and support for creativity as mediating variables in the effect of leadership styles on employees’ creativity. The study also validates the proposed conceptual framework using a second-order confirmatory factor analysis technique, namely, structural equations modeling, with the data collected from 597 followers from four e-government organizations in the UAE. The findings suggest that transformational and transactional leadership has significant positive impact on employees’ creativity. Moreover, employees’ empowerment have partial mediation effect in the relationship between leadership styles and employees’ creativity. This study contributes to the research that identifies employees’ creativity influenced by transformational and transactional leadership that can affect employee success and performance, particularly in the context of UAE-based egovernment organizations.
