Abstract

This study explores the intersection of cultural beliefs and spatial dynamics shaping the economic activities of the ethnic Chinese community in Padang City, focusing on their empowerment through Minangkabau traditional philosophy. The research highlights how cultural values deeply influence identity, social interactions, and economic opportunities within a pluralistic society. A qualitative ethnographic approach was used to gather insights from key community members, including Minangkabau and non-Minangkabau residents, as well as the Tungku Tigo Sajarangan, which consists of ninik mamak (tribal leaders), alim ulama (religious scholars), and cadiak pandai (intellectuals). Interviews centered on cultural and economic integration, exploring how traditional Minangkabau norms intersect with ethnic Chinese values. The research reveals that the Minangkabau traditional philosophy fosters an environment of coexistence, allowing the ethnic Chinese community to practice their cultural traditions without violating the overarching norms of "Adat Basandi Syarak, Syarak Basandi Kitabullah”. This cultural harmony supports economic engagement while respecting Confucian principles, which coexist with Minangkabau values. This study broadens the discourse on multiculturalism and economic interactions by highlighting how Minangkabau and Confucian values coexist within a shared economic and cultural space. The research provides new insights into the role of traditional philosophy in fostering economic inclusivity.

Abstract

This study examines the effect of ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) factors on the volatility of Islamic stock prices in the Jakarta Islamic Index (JII). The aim is to understand how sharia compliance, sustainability, social impact, and corporate responsibility affect sharia stock price fluctuations, as well as attract Muslim investors and potential investors to sharia instruments. Secondary data from JII companies for the 2021-2023 period was analyzed using purposive sampling method. The results show that ESG has a significant negative effect on Islamic stock price volatility. This suggests that companies with good ESG practices tend to be more stable and attractive to investors. However, this study also found that liquidity does not moderate the relationship between ESG and Islamic share price volatility. This means that the liquidity level of the company does not affect the negative effect of ESG on stock price volatility. This study has limitations, such as the use of JII data and a short research period. In the future, further research could consider ESG scores from various sources and compare the Islamic and conventional stock markets to understand the differences in characteristics and dynamics, as well as the role of ESG in both markets.

Abstract

This study explores how financial parameters (CAR, NPF, OER, NOM, FDR) and macroeconomic variables (Inflation, BI Rate, GDP) affect Indonesian Islamic commercial banks' profitability (ROA). Previous research have found inconsistent effects of these factors. This research seeks to discover key elements affecting Islamic bank profitability. All elements boost Islamic commercial bank profitability. Utilizing secondary data sourced from Islamic banks registered with the OJK and macroeconomic variables covering the period from Q1 2018 to Q2 2024, quantitative analysis with multiple regression is applied. Three Islamic institutions were chosen using purposive sampling, and the study was carried out using SPSS version 30. According to the results, ROA is positively and significantly affected by NPF, OER, and CAR, but not by NOM, FDR, inflation, BI Rate, or GDP. These findings point to the fact that operational efficiency and finance risk management have a more substantial impact on the profitability of Islamic organizations.

Abstract

Menara Kudus Mosque in Central Java was established by Sunan Kudus in 1549 AD (956 H). The site merges Hindu and Islamic cultural influences and attracts a growing number of worshippers and tourists, resulting in higher infaq and shodaqoh contributions that require effective management to benefit the surrounding community. This study examines the effectiveness of infaq and shodaqoh fund empowerment at the Menara Kudus Mosque using a qualitative approach based on interviews with mosque administrators, local residents, tourists, and MSME actors. The findings show that fund allocation focuses on four major areas: mosque prosperity, facility maintenance, da’wah programs, and cultural heritage preservation. Interview data also indicate stronger religious engagement, expanded economic opportunities for local MSMEs, and improved visitor experiences. The synergy among the community, mosque administrators, and tourists creates an environment that integrates worship, heritage conservation, and economic empowerment. These results highlight the strategic role of infaq and shodaqoh in fostering social, economic, and cultural development within a religious tourism setting.
