Abstract

Maintaining the sustainability of microfinance institutions such as BMT is a must because this financial institution is badly needed by the community who do not want to be involved with usury practices. Efforts to build sustainability with a variety of approaches, especially from a more Islamic management approach are needed. This study aims to build a model of sustainability in BMT based on growth in the financing, community support, fraud, Islamic human capital, and Islamic leadership. This research was conducted using a quantitative approach (multiple linear regression with stepwise methods) to get the best model by developing moderating variables. The number of samples used was 105 respondents collected from BMT spread across the Semarang and Pekalongan Residency, Central Java, Indonesia. Based on the results of the study, to build BMT sustainability requires financing growth, support from the community, and good Islamic human capital. An interesting finding is that fraud does not affect the sustainability of BMT, this is possible because the fraud that occurs is still in low intensity. Islamic leadership and Islamic human capital are also unable to moderate the influence of fraud on the sustainability of BMT.

Abstract

This study aims to develop Indonesia's mosque-based integrated community empowerment model.  The model collaboration defined the mosque as a place of productive empowerment to overcome poverty in Indonesia. This study used a qualitative approach that began with a literature study to get research direction and then continued with FGD activities with (1) takmir or administrator of the mosque from the Indonesian Mosque Council or Dewan Masjid Indonesia (DMI), (2) managers of the Amil Zakat Infaq and Sadaqah Insititute or Lembaga Amal, Zakat, Infaq, dan Sedekah (LAZIS), (3) religious leaders or ulama, and (4) academician (who have expertise in Islamic economics and finance, management, and information technology). Based on the study, a model that optimally empowers mosque-based communities (to help solve poverty problems in society around the mosque), it is necessary to have integrated the mosque involvement from many parties such as government, DMI, Aghniya, LAZIS, religious leaders, universities, and mosque. This research makes a valuable contribution by employing a holistic and integrated approach to address poverty-related issues while simultaneously strengthening the role of mosques as productive empowerment centres. It combines elements of Islamic economics, management, and information technology.

The issue of internal fraud remains a hindrance to the development of this Sharia cooperative. Preventive measures with a new approach are necessary early on to address fraud. This research aims to find a practical model of the role of Islamic human capital development in preventing internal fraud at Sharia cooperatives. The study utilized a qualitative approach with a sample of 7 Baitul Tamwil Muhammadiyah (BTM) affiliated with the Central Java branch of Pusat BTM, Indonesia, selected through purposive sampling. The research results identified a practical model of Islamic human capital development and its role in preventing fraud in the Sharia cooperative. This includes efforts to build an Islamic environment, incorporate Islamic values into operational regulations, foster knowledge sharing, organize structured and independent training, and identify other factors involved in Islamic human capital development.
