Abstract

In this study, the learning experience and its cognitive factors of Mathematics among senior high school students of Visayas State University were investigated using a correlational research approach.  A complete enumeration of 222 grade 11 and 12 senior high students in the second semester of school year 2018-2019 were used as the participants of the survey. Using a developed structured questionnaire, a primary data was employed. Results showed that the mathematics attitude of students influence their learning experience and academic performance. Mathematics anxiety has a negative effect on the students learning experience especially for females. However, mathematical resilience locates itself in a positive psychology which addresses mental wellness and makes the students positively perceived that mathematics is interesting even if it is challenging.  Also, results revealed that senior high school students are mostly visual learners in mathematics, which implies that students practice visualizing or pictures numbers/equations and other concepts in their mind. Furthermore, it can be gleaned that an academic performance is not just derived from study habits but to their motivation and interest in mathematics

Abstract

This study developed econometric models on the students’ happiness in learning mathematics to identify its influencing factors. A complete enumeration of 115 grade 11 students in the Visayas State University were employed as participants. Results showed that about 61% of the students considered themselves as moderately happy in learning. Their expected happiness is approximately the same with their actual happiness, which is one of the significant determinants in the models. STEM students among other strands in senior high school are more likely happy learners. Household income, allowance, and mental health condition show a small influence on their happiness in learning. Students who spend more time in the library, and those living in rural places tend to be happy in learning. Furthermore, physical health condition shows an inverse effect on students’ well-being in learning mathematics, while social relationships and the distance from home to school do not contribute to their happiness.

Abstract

AbstractThis paper aims to construct a new formula that generates a generalized version of congruent numbers based on a generalized version of Pythagorean triples. Here, an elliptic curve equation is constructed from the derived generalized version of Pythagorean triples and congruent numbers and gives some new results. Keywords: Pythagorean triple, congruent number, elliptic curve equation.

Abstract

A set D subset of V(G) is a dominating set of a graph G if for all x ϵ V(G)\D, for some y ϵ D such that xy ϵ E(G). A dominating set D subset of V(G) is called a connected dominating set of a graph G if the subgraph <D> induced by D is connected. A connected domination number of G, denoted by γ_c(G), is the minimum cardinality of a connected dominating set D. The triple repetition sequence denoted by {S_n:n ϵ Z+} is a sequence of positive integers which is repeated thrice, i.e., {S_n}={1,1,1,2,2,2,3,3,3, ...}. In this paper, we construct a combinatorial explicit formula for the triple repetition sequence of connected domination numbers of a triangular grid graph. Keywords: connected domination number; triangular grid graph; triple repetition sequence. 2020MSC: 05C69
