Abstract

A positive learning experience stems from active engagement with the lesson and greater interaction in learning activities. This study investigated the types of learning experience of students in Bato School of Fisheries, Leyte, Philippines such as Hands-on, Minds-on and Authentic Learning. Also, the study analyzed the students’ level of achievement in learning mathematics under each type of learning experience. The study employed a random of 25% of the grade 7 students for experimental design that involves qualitative and quantitative approach. Result shows that the Hands-on learning experience of students is in beginning level which needs a proper guidance of the mathematics teacher. It is shown that students are more capable of Hands-on group activities in mathematics. For Minds-on learning experience, students are also in beginning level, however, it is found out that they are good in critical thinking processes which create and recreate mathematics concepts for the core topics. Furthermore, authentic learning experience is in beginning level, lowest among the 3 types of learning experience. This means that students must develop their problem solving skills in mathematics with the aid of suitable teaching strategies. Anyhow, it is found out that these students have a proficient level in mathematics achievement probably by their past knowledge. Hence, a good level of achievement in mathematics can be maintain or improve through enhancing the 3 types of learning experience especially the authentic aspect. Corresponding author: Leomarich F. Abstract

This study aims to assess the suitability of students in Bachelor of Science in Statistics program. Seemingly, several students who enrolled in the said program does not possess the qualities of being mathematically inclined. Hence, this study was conducted.  By complete enumeration, the study employed all BSS students from different year level. Secondary data were used such as two psychological tests from the University Student Services Office which measures the intelligence and numerical aptitude.  A primary data was also employed through an instrument called Brainard Occupational Preference Inventory which measures the interest of students in the field of statistics. The gathered data were then analyzed with the aid of some descriptive measures and correlational methods. Results revealed that there are only a few (11.9%) who have high levels of intelligence and numerical aptitude but they happen to have low level of interest in statistics. Of those students highly interested (47.6%) in the field of statistics one-fourth (11.9%) of them have low levels of intelligence and numerical aptitude. It is found out that there is a significant linear relationship between intelligence and numerical aptitude among BSS students. Moreover, intelligence and interest in statistics is inversely and significantly correlated among BSS junior students. Furthermore, results showed that there is no significant linear relationship between numerical aptitude and interest in statistics across year level. Hence, the interest of the BSS students must be cultivated in order to increase their level of achievement.

Abstract

AbstractThis paper aims to construct a new formula that generates a generalized version of congruent numbers based on a generalized version of Pythagorean triples. Here, an elliptic curve equation is constructed from the derived generalized version of Pythagorean triples and congruent numbers and gives some new results. Keywords: Pythagorean triple, congruent number, elliptic curve equation.

Abstract

A set D subset of V(G) is a dominating set of a graph G if for all x ϵ V(G)\D, for some y ϵ D such that xy ϵ E(G). A dominating set D subset of V(G) is called a connected dominating set of a graph G if the subgraph <D> induced by D is connected. A connected domination number of G, denoted by γ_c(G), is the minimum cardinality of a connected dominating set D. The triple repetition sequence denoted by {S_n:n ϵ Z+} is a sequence of positive integers which is repeated thrice, i.e., {S_n}={1,1,1,2,2,2,3,3,3, ...}. In this paper, we construct a combinatorial explicit formula for the triple repetition sequence of connected domination numbers of a triangular grid graph. Keywords: connected domination number; triangular grid graph; triple repetition sequence. 2020MSC: 05C69
