Abstract

This research aimed to determine the physical properties and advantages of cement boards made from sago stem bark waste based on the test results of several parameters, according to JIS A 5908 (2003) standard. The results show that the physical properties of cement board from sago stem bark waste with the addition of the CaCl2 catalyst were good with the average value of cement board density ranged from 1.19-1.26 gr/cm³, water content 7,67-8,02%, water absorption after immersion 2 hours 6,03-7.65% and after 24-hour immersion 11,62-12,91%, respectively. The averages swelling value of board thickness after immersion 2 hours 1.62-12,91% and after immersion 24 hours 1.40-3.41%. Furthermore, sago bark waste in various positions of the tree trunk (tree base, middle, and top) can be utilized to manufacture the cement board. However, the board made from sago stem bark waste at the ground with the addition of a catalyst CaCl2 6% has the best physical properties and meets JIS A 5908 (2003) standard. Cement boards from sago stem bark waste have an excellent waterproof capability and can be used as outdoor materials.

Abstract

This study analyzes the physical and chemical characteristics of eucalyptus oil products in the Ambon city market. Eucalyptus oil stamped Merpati Putih/MP to determine the quality grade of MP eucalyptus oil. The MP quality grade is based on the chemical component content level of 1,8-cineole. Furthermore, according to results of the testing on the physics properties of some parameters as required at SNI 3954-2014 about Eucalyptus (Cajuput) Oil standard, and the analysis of chemical components through GC-MS apparatus, the results shows that the MP Cajuput oil has the properties of physics that meet the required standards, among others: the specific gravity (BJ) of 0917, light green-colored towards clear, smelling as typical cajuput oil (original), the refractive indexes at ambient was about 1.469; there was no mixing with other oils (clear) and the absence of fatty oil with an optical rotation value at (-) 0, 33o, respectively. However, the results of the analysis of chemical components by GC-MS proved that the quality of the MP Cajuput oil at the first quality class was based on SNI 3954-2014 due to contains 1.8-cineole whose it value was within the standard ranges of 50 to < 55%, which is 52.51%

Abstract

This Community Service Program (PKM) aims to strengthen the community’s adaptive capacity through educational and participatory approaches in responding to climate change. The implementation methods included socialization sessions, focused group discussions, training on simple mitigation techniques, and mentoring on natural resource management based on local wisdom. The results showed a significant increase in community awareness and understanding of climate change issues, especially regarding the vital role of protected forests in maintaining ecosystem balance and water resilience. The activity also fostered the formation of a climate care community group that initiated adaptive environmental actions, including tree planting, water source conservation, and integrated waste management. Collaboration among academics, local government, and customary institutions played a key role in strengthening social networks and local institutions as social capital for sustainability. Overall, this PKM activity contributed to building a more resilient, adaptive, and empowered community in Waai Village to face the impacts of climate change at the local level.
