Abstract

Abstract Corncobs is an agricultural waste having antioxidant activity because it contains phenolic and flavonoid compounds. One of the factors improving the quality of extract is slection of method extraction. Research aims to understand the influence of a method of extraction to the total phenolic and the total flavonoid contents in corncobs extract. The corncobs are macerated for three days and in reflux at the temperature 40°C for four hours. A solvent it used is ethanol 70 %. An extract obtained is determined for the total phenolic with the method Folin-ciocalteau using gallic acid as standart while levels flavonoid determined by the addition of reagent AlCl3 using Quersetin as a standart. Total phenolic content and total flavonoid content measured use of the spectrophotometer UV-Vis. The research results showed that of suggest reflux produce the total phenolic and the total flavonoid larger compared method maceration. The stastitical results using Independent t-Test showed that different method had significant to the total phenolic corncobs extract but not significantly to the total flavonoid contents in corncobs extract.

Abstract

Belonging to the Campanulaceae family, Kitolod (Isotoma longiflora) possesses antioxidant properties crucial for wound healing; presenting a case for its formulation into a gel and investigating the total phenolic and flavonoid content of kitolod leaf extract when in gel form is essential to understand its capabilities as an anti-inflammatory and wound-healing gel, as well as to examine the possible correlation between the extract's concentration and its phenolic and flavonoid content. This study assessed how different concentrations of kitolod leaf extract affect the total phenolic and flavonoid levels in a gel formulation. Using 96% ethanol, kitolod leaves were macerated. The gel formulations contained varying concentrations of kitolod leaf extract: F1(5%), F2(10%), and F3(20%). The presence of phenols and flavonoids was confirmed through qualitative tests using FeCl3 1% for phenols and the Shinoda test for flavonoids. The findings confirmed that the total levels of phenolics and flavonoids increased with the concentration of kitolod leaf extract in the gel. SPSS analysis showed a strong correlation between extract concentration in the gel and the amounts of total phenolics and flavonoids, highlighting a positive relationship between these two chemical compounds since they are in the same category.

Abstract

Hypertension can be managed using traditional medicinal plants such as elephant ginger, garlic, and citronella, which can be processed into instant powdered beverage formulations. This study evaluates the physical quality, phytochemical properties, and hedonic characteristics of powdered formulations combining these three ingredients. The study employed an observational method. Instant powdered formulations were prepared using the crystallization method, with three variations of white sugar to palm sugar ratios: 2:0 (F1), 1.5:0.5 (F2), and 1:1 (F3). A univariate analysis was conducted to evaluate the physical qualities of the powders, including organoleptic properties, pH, moisture content, tapping density, angle of repose, and dissolution time, as well as to report the results of phytochemical screening and hedonic evaluation (taste, aroma, and color). The results revealed variations in the physical properties of the three formulations. The pH values were 5.91, 5.90, and 5.74 for F1, F2, and F3, respectively. Moisture content was recorded at 1%, 1.33%, and 3.33%, while tapping density was 8.33%, 11%, and 11.33%. Flow times were 10.57 seconds, 10.68 seconds, and 11.34 seconds, while the angles of repose were measured at 32.37°, 26.47°, and 37.81°. Dissolution times were recorded as 15.3 seconds, 17.17 seconds, and 18.15 seconds. Formula 1 (F1) demonstrated the best physical quality based on established standards among the formulations. Phytochemical screening for all three formulations (F1–F3) indicated the presence of flavonoids and saponins, while tests for alkaloids and terpenoids yielded negative results. The hedonic evaluation, conducted using F1 due to its superior physical quality, showed that out of 31 respondents, 17 rated it as "like," 8 as "neutral," and 6 as "very like." In conclusion, although the flow time parameter did not meet the standard requirement, F1 exhibited the best physical quality, contained beneficial phytochemicals (flavonoids and saponins), and was well-received by the majority of respondents in terms of taste, aroma, and color.

Abstract

Anemia is a condition characterized by a lower than normal number and size of red blood cells or hemoglobin concentration (11g/dL). This condition results in the impaired capacity of the blood to transport oxygen throughout the body. Anemia in pregnant women and children has a relatively high prevalence. The high incidence of anemia in Indonesia, especially in Klaten Regency, is also caused by a lack of nutritious food intake. Anemia prevention can be achieved by consuming foods rich in iron and vitamin C, taking iron supplements, and avoiding foods that hinder iron absorption, one of which is beetroot. The purpose of this community service activity is to provide knowledge about the use of beetroot as an anemia supplement for pregnant women and children in Klaten Regency. The implementation of this community service activity was carried out with a pretest, followed by an outreach activity on the use of beetroot as an anemia supplement, followed by a posttest and concluded with a practical session on making beetroot juice. Based on the community service activities conducted, there was an increase in public understanding of the use of beetroot as an anemia supplement for pregnant women and children. From the 10 questions given, there were 7 questions that showed an increase in understanding and 3 questions that showed no change, resulting in an average increase in understanding of 16.32%.

Abstract

A lip tint is a cosmetic preparation that colors lips while shielding them from UV light and free radical damage. The butterfly pea blossom is one plant that possesses sunscreen properties and can be used as a natural dye. The purpose of this study is to ascertain how the concentration of butterfly pea flower extract affects the SPF activity of lip tint products containing this extract. This study's design is entirely random, making it an experimental investigation. The in vitro SPF test results using Uv-Vis spectrophotometry show that at a concentration of 5%, 1.618162 SPF falls into the less group; at a concentration of 10%, 4.770857 SPF falls into the medium category; and at a concentration of 15%, 6.1224069 SPF falls into the extra category. The SPF value of lip tint preparations is influenced by the varied concentrations of butterfly pea flower extract, as indicated by the statistical analysis results, which indicate significant variations between the three concentrations (p<0.05).
