Abstract

Background: To initiate journey towards the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) it is essential to assess the health facilities. Unfortunately, no health facility assessment has been conducted in Bangladesh so far using "Service Availability and Readiness Assessment (SARA)” tool. Therefore, we aimed to conduct a pilot study to assess health facilities for maternal and child health services using SARA tool so that we can scale-up this assessment throughout the country later.Aim: We aimed to assess the health facilities for maternal and child health services in Tangail, Bangladesh using service availability and readiness assessment (SARA) tool.Methods: A cross-sectional pilot study was conducted in Bashail and Shokhipur Upazilla of Tangail district. A sample of 14 health facilities was assessed purposefully for data collection using a modified version of the SARA tool. Data was collected from November 01 to November 15, 2013, using paper-based questionnaire. Finally, following data collection, data were documented into Microsoft Excel by data collectors. Data were analyzed using Microsoft Excel, version 2010.Results: General service readiness has been segregated into five domains and their readiness scores were basic amenities (53.06%), basic equipment (83.33%), standard precautions for infection prevention (55.56%), and basic equipment (58.93%) for included health facilities. Similarly, specific service readiness includes family planning (48.15%), child immunization (67.71%), preventive and curative care (71.43%), and basic surgery (93.33%).Conclusion: Since we are moving towards UHC, it is essential to know the current scenario of health facilities. This pilot study reveals the strength and weakness of the health facilities in providing the maternal and child health services. These findings will help us to resolve all the identified gaps through proper planning and action.

Abstract

Diabetes is one of the leading causes of death and its prevalence is increasing day by day. This survey was conducted by direct interviewing to the diabetic patients. In this study, the interviewees were the diabetic affected patients of Pabna district. About 1100 persons were interviewed among them 37.55% were male and 62.45% were female. Most of the patients have onset of diabetes at 41-50 years age. Most of our observed patients have suffered from diabetes between 1-5 years (62.64%) followed by 6-10 years (25.18%). Here 3.18% patients have BMI ≤18.5, 47.55% have between 18.5-24.9, 39.55% have BMI 25.5-29.9 and 9.73% have BMI ≥30. Here 93.45% diabetic patients have blood glucose level of >7 mmol/L. The diabetic patients also suffered from retinopathy 50.36%, neuropathy 19.73%, nephropathy 23.55% and foot problem 43.36%. About 63.27% are taking diet, 56.91% are taking exercise and 93.91% are taking drug for treating diabetes. It was found that the patients are suffering from different other diseases. The patients need to be aware about the potential risk of other diseases.

Abstract

The current research aims to improve the generation of bio-char with elevated higher heating values (HHVs) by utilizing magnesium oxide-zeolite-based catalysts across various temperature conditions. The exploration of biomass catalytic pyrolysis has intensified in the pursuit of sustainable energy solutions. Catalytic pyrolysis offers a technique to convert abundant and renewable biomass resources into valuable biofuels and bio-char, thereby improving energy security and reducing dependence on fossil fuels. The use of suitable catalysts in biomass catalytic pyrolysis is crucial for enhancing the yield of bio-char with higher calorific value. This investigation explores the impact of magnesium oxide-zeolite-based catalysts on the higher heating values of bio-char generated from coconut shells. The initial findings indicate a notable enhancement in the calorific value of bio-char. The HHV increased from 12.03 MJ/kg for untreated coconut shells to 20.06 MJ/kg with ZSM-5, ultimately reaching an impressive 38.11 MJ/kg with the MgO/ZSM-5 catalyst. The results demonstrate that the addition of magnesium oxide significantly improves the energy content of bio-char. Various combinations of magnesium oxide, such as MgO/ZSM-5, MgO/Y2O3/ZSM-5, and MgO/Mn3O4/ZSM-5, are evaluated for their effects on the pyrolysis process. The results demonstrate that the impregnation of metal oxides into zeolite catalysts enhances catalytic performance and facilitates the efficient conversion of coconut shells into high-energy bio-char. The findings highlight the promise of metal oxide-zeolite catalysts in improving bio-char quality and promoting the development of sustainable energy technologies.
