Abstract

The farmer mother’s empowerment program is a very important and strategic initiative in an effort to improve the welfare of rural communities. This program aims to empower farmer mothers in Poso through the implementation of the Moengko Nursery House Program, a collaborative initiative between PT Pertamina Patra Niaga Fuel Terminal Poso and the local community. The program is focused on improving the skills and capacity of farmer mothers in crop cultivation, particularly through the development of sustainable nursery houses. The methods used in this program include technical training, field assistance, cooperative system education, and the Moengko healthy kitchen program. The location of the Moengko Nursery House Program activities is located in Poso Terminal Fuel operational area. The target of this program is the Citra Bersatu Women Farmers Group, which consists of 12 people in Moengko Village. The results of this activity showed an increase in the knowledge and skills of farm women in cultivation techniques, including the selection of superior seeds, seeding techniques, and plant care. In addition, the program also succeeded in establishing a cooperative system that encourages the sustainability of farmer group businesses, as well as the promotion of the Moengko Healthy Kitchen Program. The program evaluation showed a positive impact on the independence of farmer mothers in procuring vegetables independently, the cooperative system of vegetable cultivation, and the processing of healthy food ingredients for the family.

Abstract

Nutritional problems among toddlers remain a significant public health issue, often caused by limited knowledge of balanced nutrition. This community service activity aimed to address this issue by improving the knowledge of mothers with toddlers regarding balanced nutrition as an effort to prevent nutritional problems. The beneficiaries were 21 mothers participating in the SEHATI Pertamina program within the Tabaringan Community Health Center (Puskesmas Tabaringan) working area, Makassar. The program included educational counseling and practical training on making anchovy sausages as a nutritious food alternative. The methods used were lectures and interactive discussions, followed by knowledge assessments through pre-tests and post-tests. Factors contributing to the lack of knowledge about balanced nutrition included maternal factors, household environment, poor food quality, inappropriate feeding practices, food and beverage safety, breastfeeding, infections, socio-economic and political conditions, healthcare services, education, social and cultural aspects, agricultural and food systems, water, sanitation, and the environment. The evaluation results showed a significant improvement in the participants' knowledge. Before the education, 28% of participants had good knowledge, which increased to 61% after the program, indicating the effectiveness of educational interventions in enhancing the understanding of balanced nutrition. The findings highlight the importance of continuous educational interventions to improve maternal knowledge and practices related to child nutrition, which can contribute to reducing nutritional problems in the long term.

Abstract

Improper management of disposable diaper waste remains a persistent environmental concern, especially in rural areas where public awareness and infrastructure are limited. Previous studies have often overlooked community-based educational interventions focused on diaper waste processing. This study aims to improve community knowledge on waste separation and disposable diaper waste management through a targeted empowerment program in Kelurahan Tamalabba, South Sulawesi. Conducted as part of the CSR initiative of PT Pertamina Patra Niaga IT Makassar, the program involved 20 residents of RW 4 and employed a combination of socialization, interactive discussions, and hands-on training. Baseline data revealed only 20% of participants had good knowledge of diaper waste handling. Following the intervention, this figure increased to 75%, indicating a substantial improvement. This study demonstrates the effectiveness of hydrothermal technology as a feasible solution for diaper waste processing in rural settings, while simultaneously emphasizing the role of participatory education in fostering environmental responsibility. These findings highlight the potential of localized CSR-supported programs to enhance public health outcomes by addressing unmanaged sanitary waste in underserved areas.
