Abstract

This study aims to identify the metaphorical terms included in the lyrics of Taylor Swift's album "Evermore." Using the theoretical framework offered by Lakoff and Johnson—which highlights the impact metaphorical language has on listeners' perception and comprehension—the study focuses on analyzing these metaphorical statements. The results show that Swift uses a wide range of metaphorical terms to describe both universal and particular experiences, which heightens the emotional impact and relatability of her songs. By highlighting the critical role that metaphor plays in modern song lyrics and providing insights into how metaphorical language can elicit strong imagery and emotional resonance in listeners, this study makes significant advancements in the discipline of linguistic pragmatics. Through an in-depth analysis of contemporary music, the research underscores how songwriters skillfully utilize metaphors to convey complex emotions, experiences, and narratives that might be difficult to express through literal language alone. This not only enriches the listeners' interpretative experience but also enhances their emotional connection to the music.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of cultural structure on gender stereotypes in "Frozen 2" by Jennifer Lee, with two main objectives: 1) to identify the forms of gender stereotypes present and 2) to describe how these stereotypes are influence by cultural structures. Employing Karl Marx's cultural structure theory, the research examines the "base" through subcategories such as social class, ideology, and division of labor, as well as the "superstructure" encompassing laws, politics, culture, and art. Additionally, it incorporates Simone de Beauvoir's perspective on gender stereotypes, focusing on the concept of "the Other" with subcategories including intersectionality, stereotypes as tools for power, the eternal feminine, and the notion of going beyond women. Utilizing a qualitative methodology, the study conducts a descriptive analysis of the film alongside relevant literature. The findings reveal that "Frozen 2" portrays various gender stereotypes, particularly in its depiction of female characters who, despite their strength and independence, are still influenced by traditional gender norms. Ultimately, the research highlights how cultural structures significantly impact the representation of gender in the film, illustrating the complex interplay between societal norms and individual identity, and contributing to a deeper understanding of how cultural narratives can either reinforce or challenge gender stereotypes.

Abstract

Waste management in the school environment remains a challenge in creating a clean and healthy learning environment. The lack of students' understanding of waste management and the health impacts of littering behavior is the background of this activity. The "Zero Waste Living Margo Mulyo: Creating a Clean and Healthy School Environment" program aims to improve the understanding of fourth grade students at SD Negeri 008 Balikpapan Barat regarding the 3R concept (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), English vocabulary related to cleanliness, and the importance of maintaining environmental hygiene. The activity was carried out with a participatory-educational approach through material delivery, interactive discussions, and waste sorting practices. Data were collected through observation and documentation during the activity. The results of the activity showed an increase in students' understanding of the 3R concept, an increase in English vocabulary related to cleanliness, and an increase in awareness in maintaining the cleanliness and health of the school environment. This program shows that practice-based and interactive education is effective in instilling environmental awareness from an early age, while contributing to supporting sustainable development efforts in the elementary education environment.
