Abstract

The Central Bank held power to carry out a monetary policy through the setting of monetary targets such as the money supply or interest rates with the main objective of maintaining inflation at the level determined by the government. At the operational level, this monetary objective depends on the use of instruments, including open market operations in the foreign exchange market, the setting of the discount rate, the setting of minimum reserve requirements and regulating credit or financing. We analyzed the causality of Bank Indonesia (BI Rate) and US interest rates (Federal Fund Rate). This study used secondary data, especially data from Bank Indonesia and The Federal Reserve. This data was the ones from the monthly time series from January 2006 to May 2016. This study used Granger causality test to determine the causality of BI Rate and Federal Fund Rate. Granger Causality test results indicated that there was no causality between the BI Rate and the Federal Fund Rate. We found that the movement of interest rates was not only caused by the external side, but also by the internal side. The case in Indonesia showed that the movement of interest rates was mainly due to an increase in gross domestic product, low participation in the Global Value Chain and the adoption of the expansionary monetary policy.JEL Classification: E43, E52, E58DOI: https://doi.org/10.26905/jkdp.v22i3.1972

Abstract

Money and space were elements that continually contested. This article aimed to described the role of money and space to support development activity, using the case study of Mbatakapidu. “Money” in this article was referred to fund assistance from external parties such as government (central, province or regency), non-governmental organization (NGOs), and internal side such as self-supporting (local resources), while “space” that referred in this article was local institution called BUMDes (Badan Usaha Milik Desa). This research applied qualitative approach by conducting a case study. Data were gathered through in-depth interview to 5 purposively-selected informants. Secondary data from previous research was used as complement to primary data. Researchers also held a focus group discussion to gain more accurate explanation about the phenomena. The case study shows that fund which entered the village was not yet accompanied by the presence of BUMDes, due to the absence of  supporting regulations such as regional regulation (Perda) and village regulation (Perdes) about BUMDes East Sumba regency, especially in Mbatakapidu. BUMDes as an instrument to develop village’s economics must followed by the presence of regulation as a legal basis, driven by local value which guide knowledge, attitude and practice of indigenous people.

Abstract

The environment (nature) is one of the most important aspects of life that needs to be considered when referring to and regarding sustainable development. This article aims to describe environmental management based on local knowledge using the case study conducted focusing on Mbatakapidu. The environment, which is a space for people to create a sustainable livelihood, is increasingly being disturbed by the acts of humanity itself. However, we cannot deny that in addition to these conditions, there are still local communities that always strive to create a balance between human and the environment. One of them is a local community in Mbatakapidu. This study used a qualitative approach with a case study perspective. The data collection was done by conducting in-depth interviews with the informants. The six informants were determined purposively. The results of this study show that people of Mbatakapidu trust that there are spirits who inhabit the springs and forests. This is a form of local wisdom that makes them tend to hold on to destructive action against the forest. The people of Mbatakapidu make nature their friend, and seek not to exploit but desire to maintain the sustainability of nature with the traditional local knowledge that they have. It implies that the Mbatakapidu people are obedient to Marapu. The values embraced by Marapu makes people harmonise their life with the natural environment. Therefore, the act of field (savannah) burning turned out to be mobilised by the individual and not at the instigation of local values as believed by the Mbatakapidu.

Abstract

The Tirta Mandiri village-owned enterprises or BUMDes is one of the best village-owned enterprises in Indonesia. It has made these village-owned enterprises a learning center for others in Indonesia. Currently, Tirta Mandiri village-owned enterprises have the role of creating new business fields in Ponggok Village (Polanharjo District, Klaten Regency). This study applied a qualitative method by conducting a case study. The primary data gathered through in-depth interviews with seven key informants and two supporting informants. The secondary data collected through the business management and planning documents of the Tirta Mandiri village-owned enterprises. Tirta Mandiri village-owned enterprises have been able to develop seven business units in the form of Limited Companies (Ltd.). Their presence can increase the output, income, and labor (multiplier effect) of the Ponggok villagers. It is proven by the presence of new businesses in the community. The development of the Tirta Mandiri village-owned enterprises is inseparable from the social capital of the community as a foundation for the development of the village-owned enterprises themselves. Furthermore, community participation actualized through investments, which are a sign of the public’s trust in the village-owned enterprises. Money is energy, and planning is the compass, and authority is the driver where the village takes part in realizing its autonomy. Learning from experience is one way to create sustainable village-owned enterprises.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the factors influencing the female workers’ income in Central Java such as age, level of education, number of family dependents, marital status, business field, and type of area. The data used in the study was a secondary data from the Central Bureau of Statistics (National Socio-Economic Survey). The data from the survey were in the form of Household Main Information and Household Members in Central Java in 2008. Methodically, this study used a cross-sectional model with multiple linear regression analysis. The results showed that the variables of age and level of education had a positive and significant influence on the income of female workers, and further, business field had a negative and significant influence on the income of female workers, but the number of family dependents, marital status, and type of area had no significant effect on the income of female workers in Central Java. It implies that the government in Central Java should extend the retirement age of the workforce (especially women), more proactive education in informal education for workers who are still low educated, and the need for integrity of agricultural land which is a source of living for the farmers, a better profit sharing system between the owner of the land and workers, and the right distribution of fertilizers.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a dynamic portfolio model based on asset class, precious metals, world oil, and dollar index. This study performs a comparative test between the Dynamics Conditional Correlation (DCC) and Asymmetric Dynamics Conditional Correlation (ADCC) to determine the best method in forming a dynamic portfolio. Four big cap companies on the Indonesian stock market (BBCA, BBRI, BMRI, and ASII) are examined in this study. The data used were daily returns for the period of January 2, 1998 – December 31, 2020, analyzed using Dynamics Conditional Correlation (DCC) and Asymmetric Dynamics Conditional Correlation (ADCC). The results of empirical testing suggest that including gold, world oil, and dollar index into the dynamic portfolio might increase the portfolio performance and minimize its risks. The stock-gold portfolios formed by utilizing the DCC and ADCC-GARCH methods outperform those composed of only stock. Gold could act as a financial system stabilizer by mitigating losses in the case of extreme negative market shocks. Stock-WTI portfolios formed by utilizing the DCC and ADCC-GARCH methods also outperform those composed of only stock.
