Abstract

This study aims to describe the level of tendency and causes of students’ errors in solving mathematic story problems. Error analysis was carried out based on the Polya's procedure reviewed from the students' learning styles. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. The sampling technique used purposive sampling and consideration from the mathematics teacher so that class VII H of SMP Negeri 13 Mataram was obtained as the research subject. The sample used was 29 students. Data collection techniques using learning style questionnaires, test questions, and interviews. Data analysis techniques are data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. Based on the results of data analysis obtained from test results and interviews, it can be concluded that, students of visual learning styles tend to make mistakes at the plans implementing stage with an error rate of 63% including in the high category and the recheck stage with an error rate of 86% including in the very high category. Students of auditorial learning styles tend to make mistakes at the recheck stage with an error rate of 58% including in the medium category. Students of kinesthetic learning styles tend to make mistakes at the recheck stage with an error rate of 44% including in the low category. The causes of these errors are because 1) students are less to understand the problem, 2) less careful in doing calculations, 3) not used to writing conclusions because students used the results from the previous stage as conclusions.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan kemampuan penalaran dalam menyelesaikan soal matematika materi sistem persamaan linier dua variabel pada siswa kelas XI SMKN 1 Gerung tahun ajaran 2023/2024 berdasarkan tingkatan kecerdasan emosional siswa. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan pendekatan kualitatif. Metode pengumpulan data yang dilakukan pada penelitian ini berupa angket kecerdasan emosional, tes tertulis kemampuan penalaran matematis, dan wawancara mendalam terkait kemampuan penalaran matematis. Metode analisis data yang digunakan yaitu tahap pengumpulan data, reduksi data, penyajian data, serta penarikan kesimpulan dan verifikasi. Indikator kemampuan penalaran matematis mencakup 4 tahapan yaitu: a) mengidentifikasi informasi, b) mengaitkan dengan objek matematika, c) menyusun argumen, dan d) menarik kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: a) kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa dengan tingkat kecerdasan emosional tinggi mampu mengidentifikasi informasi, mengaitkan dengan objek matematika, menyusun argumen, serta memberikan kesimpulan beserta alasan dari kesimpulan yang diberikan dengan baik dan benar; b) kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa dengan tingkat kecerdasan emosional sedang masih kurang pada tahap menyusun argumen, masih melakukan kesalahan dan kurang teliti dalam menyusun argumen;  c) kemampuan penalaran matematis siswa dengan tingkat kecerdasan emosional rendah mampu memberikan kesimpulan namun tidak mampu memberikan alasan dari kesimpulan yang diberikan.

Abstract

Mathematics is an essential subject, but some students face difficulties in learning due to the lack of engaging and innovative learning resources. However, using PowToon-based learning media in videos can be an effective alternative for distance education. This study aimed to develop PowToon-based mathematics learning media that would be valid, practical, and effective for the eighth-grade Cartesian coordinate material at SMP Negeri 13 Mataram, using the 4D research method (Define, Design, Development, Dissemination). The research resulted in an MP4 video about Cartesian Coordinate material that received a validity score of 0.82, which was considered highly valid by four validators. The product is also considered practical, with an 84.6% practicality score based on the responses of 24 students who used it for the Cartesian coordinate material. The media has proven highly effective, with a student completion rate of 83.33% during the test trial. Furthermore, the learning media is disseminated through YouTube for easy student access. Thus, PowToon-based learning media can be considered valid, practical, and effective for mathematics education.
