Abstract

The main issue of this research is the low learning outcomes of students in English language learning, one of the factors behind this problem is the lack of learning innovations used. This research used flashcards as learning media to make students interested in learning English. This research used flashcards as media in learning simple present tense material  This research aimed to find out if there is a significant effect of flashcards on students’ simple present tense writing ability at SDN Rawu. To achieve that aim,  this research used quasi-experimental design. This study involved 64 students as the sample consisting 32 students in the experiment class and 32 students in the control class.  For data collection techniques, a pre-test was given to both classes at the first meeting and then the post-test at the last meeting. The result showed that the students in the experimental class obtained significantly higher scores than the control class. This is proven by the results of Paired Sample T-Test where the sig-2 tailed value was 0.00, while the alpha(a) was 0.05 showing that the sig. value is lower than 0.05 (0.00 < 0.05).  This demonstrates that the alternative hypothesis is accepted. It can be concluded that there is any significant influence of flashcards toward students’ writing abilities at SDN Rawu.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out the effect of using the visualization strategy on students’ reading comprehension in tenth grade at one senior high school in Serang City, Banten Province. This research used quasi-experimental design. The population in this research was all tenth grades students while the samples were from class X MIPA 4 as the experimental class and X MIPA 5 as the control class. The two classes were selected using purposive sampling. To obtain data, the researcher used pre-test and post-test as instruments consisting of 40 multiple choice items. The data obtained from both tests were analyzed using the T-test. The results of the post-test average scores show a significant increase between the pre-test and post-test. The average score in the pre-test of the experimental class is 60.5 while the control class got 59.5. In addition, the average score in the post-test experimental class is 80.33 while the control class is 72.00. The hypothesis tests reveal that sig. 2 tailed is 0.001 while the determined alpha (α) is 0.05 (5%). It means that sig. ≤ α or 0.001 ≤ 0.05. Therefore, it can be said that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. Thus, the visualization strategy is effective on students' reading comprehension.

Abstract

The background of this research was based on students’ problems in overcoming glossophobia, which affects their confidence, English proficiency, and performance in public speaking activities, ultimately impacting their academic achievement. The objective of this research is to find out whether there is a correlation between glossophobia and public speaking achievement among second semester students. This research used correlational method. The population of this research was second semester students of English Department at one public university in Banten Province, Indonesia. This study used cluster random sampling. There were 40 students as sample of this research. The data of this research was collected by giving glossophobia questionnaire and collecting public speaking scores. Based on the students’ glossophobia and public speaking achievement, the value of coefficient correlation test was -0.317 which means values close to zero indicate the correlation was low. The correlation was statistically significant with a significance of 0.047. Therefore the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. The findings indicate an inverse relationship between glossophobia and public speaking achievement, suggesting that as glossophobia increases, public speaking achievement decreases, and vice versa.
