Abstract

Studi ini berupaya untuk menganalisis komunikasi non verbal Surya Paloh sebagai salah satu politisi yang aktif tampil di media menjelang pemilu presiden 2014. Kami mengamati bahwa komunikasi non verbal yang ditampilkan oleh politisi selalu memiliki tujuan secara politis. Fokus dalam penelitian ini yaitu bentuk-bentuk komunikasi non verbal yang dilakukan oleh Surya Paloh melalui intonasi suara, kecepatan berbicara, kontak mata, ekspresi wajah, postur tubuh hingga gerakan tangan sebagai ekspresi dari komunikasi seorang politisi. Melalui metode etnografi digital, peneliti memiliki keleluasaan dalam mengumpulkan data dari internet (website dan media sosial). Penggunaan metode etnografi digital dimungkinkan untuk memahami sejauhmana keajegan isi komunikasi seperti pemaknaan isi komunikasi, simbol-simbol dan interaksi simbolis yang terjadi dalam komunikasi melalui media baru. Teknik pengumpulan data kami lakukan melalui screeshot/capture foto dan video Surya Paloh yang ada di situs pemberitaan daring (online news). Berdasarkan amatan kami, Surya Paloh, yang mewakili politisi memanfaatkan komunikasi non-verbal sebagai salah satu upaya meraih simpati audiens. Selain itu, kami menemukan bahwa komunikasi non-verbal cukup membantu politisi ketika berbicara di depan publik dan berhadapan dengan lawan politiknya. This study attempts to analyze the communication style of Surya Paloh as one of the politicians who frequently appear in the media during the presidential election in 2014. In our observation, non verbal communication used by politicians certainly has political purposes. In this study we focus on aspects of non-verbal communication such as tone of voice, speed of speech, eye contact, facial expressions and gestures as expressions of political communication. This study applies a digital ethnography method for gathering data from internet. The use of digital ethnography method is required to understand the extent of constancy of communication content such as the meaning of the content of the communication, symbols and symbolic interactions that occur in communication through new media. Data collection techniques used in the research include screenshots/ capture photos and videos of Surya Paloh in online news sites. Based on our observations, Surya Paloh represents politicians who take advantage of non-verbal communication as an effort to gain the sympathy of the audience. In addition, we find that non-verbal communication adequately helps politicians when speaking in public and dealing with political opponents.

Abstract

This research uses interpretive approach through visual semiotics method. Visual semiotics method is done by purposive sampling the most popular five videos that have been produced and uploaded by Bayu SKAK on his YouTube channel. The researcher also gathers some data from second resources to find out its impact on economic site. The result of the research shows that YouTube as a public communication channel and entrepreneurship. Bayu SKAK's video blogging consists of creative ideas and also a media for digital entrepreneurship. Digital entrepreneurship is able to create a new environment for evolutionary creative industries that are based on ideas, networking, and self-creativity. The culture and communication pattern is developed between the Vlogger as the creative producer and the audience as the consumer of vlogs. On one side, YouTube channels have been an open commercial public space for people of the age of information, has more than one role by being the audio-visual consumer and also the producer, on the other side there have been problems, such as institutional problems, copyright protection, and advertisement management. However, socializing the use of video blogging through YouTube channels can be an alternative way to improve and develop digital entrepreneurship in Indonesia. Educating the society through social media can promote the various types of new businesses based on digital entrepreneurship through the creativity and the contribution of teenagers to digital native. This research does not reveal the Vlogger's strategy to attract large viewers, and it becomes an important issue to explore the benefits of social media.
