Abstract

Banking plays an important role in the economy both micro and macro. In addition, it is crucial for a country to have a strong and robust banking system. To realize a strong and robust banking banks need to maintain their efficiency. Therefore, it is necessary to identify the factors that affect efficiency, including asset diversification, risk, bank size and bank liquidity. The novelty of this research is that there is an asset diversification variable. Asset diversification can protect investors from recurring investment cycles and can save from asset failure. The sample of this research are conventional banks with a total of 10 banks that have the largest share of assets in Indonesia. In this study to identify the effect of asset diversification, bank risk, bank size, and bank liquidity on bank efficiency used multiple linear regression analysis methods were used. This study concludes that asset diversification actually reduces bank efficiency. The increased bank risk, the better efficiency. Then, the size of the bank and liquidity have no effect on efficiency. Therefore, banks need to review the diversification strategy, ensure that the risks associated with each asset and portfolio as a whole are well-identified and look for opportunities to automate repetitive processes and reduce overall operational costs. Through this research, we suggest, (i) Banks need to review the diversification strategy that has been implemented. There may be some areas or types of assets that do not fit the risk profile and objectives of the bank, (ii) Banks need to ensure that the risks associated with each asset and portfolio as a whole are well-identified, measured and managed, (iii) Banks need to look for opportunities to automate repetitive processes and reduce overall operational costs.

The results of this study indicate that FDI has a negative and significant relationship on carbon emissions in the long term in Indonesia, but doesn’t have a significant relationship in the short term. PMDN has a positive and significant relationship on carbon emissions in the long term in Indonesia, but doesn’t have a significant relationship in the short term. Gross Domestic Product has a positive and significant relationship on carbon emissions in the long and short term in Indonesia.

Abstract

Climate change is one of the global issues that attract public concern these days. The banking sector is inseparable from the responsibility to protect the environment even though it does not directly contribute to environmental damage. Banks can apply environmentally friendly practices in their operational activities or also called green banking. This study aims to analyze the effect of implementing green banking on the profitability of commercial banks listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the period 2016-2021. The application of green banking as an independent variable is projected by the Green Banking Disclosure Index (GBDI) and green banking products consisting of the number of ATM units and the frequency of M-banking transactions. Meanwhile, profitability as the dependent variable will be projected with Return on Assets (ROA). Panel data regression analysis was used to determine the effect of the independent variable on the dependent variable. The research findings reveal that partially the number of ATM units has a positive and significant effect on ROA, while GBDI and the frequency of M-banking transactions have a negative and insignificant effect on ROA. However, simultaneous testing found that the implementation of green banking projected by GBDI, Number of ATM Units, and Frequency of M-banking Transactions had a positive and significant effect on profitability.

This study uses a sample of 8 banking companies from 2015-2021. Sampling using purposive sampling technique. The data analysis used is descriptive analysis, canonical correlation test, classical assumption test, multiple regression test, and hypothesis testing. From the test results on the four variables, it can be concluded that the intellectual capital variable has a positive effect on the abnormal return, trading volume activity, ROA, and ROE variables. And also the intellectual capital variable has a close relationship with the ROA and ROE variables. These results indicate that by increasing the value of intellectual capital, banking companies can have a competitive advantage so that they can compete with competitors.
