Abstract

This research aims to test whether there is a significant difference before and after use of YouTube videos on students' listening skills at SMK Abdurrab Pekanbaru. This research use quantitative approach with a pre-experimental design, the research focuses on one group pre-test and post-test design. The population comprised 165 eleventh-grade students, with a purposive sampling technique selecting 25 students from class 11 TLM 3. Data were gathered using pre-tests and post-tests administered through Google Forms, with treatment delivered using YouTube videos over four sessions. The data were analyzed using SPSS 23, employing a Paired Sample T-test. The findings indicate a significant improvement in students' listening skills. The mean pre-test score was 42.2, while the mean post-test score increased to 79.8. The study used Paired Sample T-test as the data analysis a significance value of 0.000 (<0.05), demonstrating a statistically significant difference between pre-test and post-test scores. In conclusion, the use of YouTube videos effectively enhances students' listening skills, as evidenced by the rejection of the null hypothesis (Ho) and acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha).

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the significant correlation between the extrovert-introvert personality trait and their speaking performance at the first grade students of MAN 3 Pekanbaru. This research used quantitative method with  correlational research. The target population of this study was the first grade of students at MAN 3 Pekanbaru. The researcher used lottery in doing cluster sampling to choose 1 from 7 classes to be the sample of this research. The sample was class X Science 1 which consisted of 32 students . In this research, for collecting the data the reseacher used questionnaire and test. the researcher distributed the questionnaire to the respondents in order to determine extrovert and introvert students, which consisted of 24 questions developed from indicators of extrovert and introvert and the questions adopted from Eysenck Personality Inventory. Then, the researcher used an oral test to know students’ speaking performance. The reseacher used correlation coefficient of pearson product moment through SPSS 21.0 to analyze the data. Based on the data, the hypotheses Ha was accepted and Ho was rejected. So, it can be concluded thatthere is a Significant Correlation between Extrovert-Introvert Personality Trait and the First Grade Students’ Speaking Perfomance at MAN 3 Pekanbaru.

Abstract

The objectives of the research were to investigate the students’ writing ability in descriptive text taught without using Photographic Image, to investigate the students’ writing ability in descriptive text taught by using Photographic Image and to investigate whether there is a significance difference on students writing ability in descriptive text taught by using Photographic Image to compared the students in the conrol group. In this research, the researcher design was an quasi-experimental research. The populatiom of the research was the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Koto Gasib in academic year 2021/2022. The total number of population was 38 students. The sample researcher taken from two classes (VIII 1 20 students and VIII 2 18 students). In this research, the researcher used pre-test and post-test to collect the data to find out the students’ writing ability in descriptive text. The technique of analyzing data was an independent sampe T-test through SPSS version 23. The researcher found that Sig. (2 tailed) was 0.001 less than 0.05. it means that Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. In other words, there is a significant difference in students’ writing ability in descriptive text between taught without and by using Photographic Image at the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Koto Gasib.

Abstract

This study investigates the use of the dictation technique in improving English listening skills among eleventh-grade students at MAN 3 Kota Pekanbaru. Employing a quantitative pre-experimental design, the researcher administered pre- and post-tests to 36 students to measure the effect of dictation. The findings reveal a significant improvement in listening ability, with the mean score increasing from 52.64 to 74.03. A paired-sample t-test indicated a statistically significant difference (p = 0.000), affirming that dictation effectively enhances students’ listening skills. The study recommends that teachers incorporate dictation as a practical method to support listening comprehension.

Abstract

Cake application is an English learning application that aims to improve student learning activities in English. This application provides speaking, writing, listening, and reading features. There are several features in this application such as watching short movie and practicing speaking by using dialogue. The aimed of this research was to find out whether there is a significant difference of students’ speaking skill between before and after using Cake application at the Eleventh Grade of Senior High School 14 Pekanbaru. The researcher formulated the problems into three research questions that would be answering by using quantitative research. This research was a pre-experimental research. The total population was 422 students. The classes chosen as the sample was XI IPA 7 by using a convenience sampling technique which the total of sample were 36 students’. In collecting the data, the researcher used speaking test to determine students’ speaking skill. In analyzing the data, the researcher used Wilcoxon signed Ranks Test formula calculated by SPSS 23 version. Based on analysis of the t-test formula, the sig. value is 0.000. It could be stated that 0.000 had less value than 0.05, then Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected. So it can be concluded that there was a significant difference of students’ speaking skill between before and after using Cake application at the Eleventh Grade of Senior High School 14 Pekanbaru.
