Abstract

The Quran does not conceptually define what a state is and what its form should be, but there are several terms in the Quran that can explain the components of a state. There are several terms often associated with the state, such as the word البلد (al-balad) with its various forms of tashrîf (word patterns) from singular to plural forms like البلاد (al-bilâd), or to feminine forms like بلدة (baldah). The Quran also uses the term madînah to refer to a state. Additionally, the Quran uses the term القرية (al-Qaryah) in its singular form and القرى (al-Qurâ) in its plural form. Similarly, the Quran uses the term الدار (al-Dâr) in its singular form and الديار (al-Diyâr) in its plural form. All these terms refer to the concept of a state. A state is an institution that plays a crucial role in human life, responsible for maintaining security, upholding justice, providing legal certainty, and protecting human rights, as well as teaching respect for authority.

Abstract

Jihad merupakan salah satu konsep Islam yang paling sering dipahami, khususnya oleh kalangan para ahli dan pengamat Barat. Jihad merupakan bagian integral wacana Islam sejak masa-masa awal muslim hingga kontemporer. Pembicaraan tentang jihad dan konsep-konsep yang dikemukakan sedikit atau banyak mengalami pergeseran dan perubahan sesuai dengan konteks danlingkungan masing-masing pemikir. Jihad dalam Islam sangatlah penting, sehingga cukup beralasan jika kalangan khawarij menetapkannya sebagai rukun Islam ke enam.

Abstract

Perkembangan Tafsir Alquran yang ada di Indonesia tidak terlepas dari pengaruh perkembangan Islam di belahan bumi lain. Produk tafsir di Indonesia tidak pernah berakhir, demikian pula dengan perkembangan keilmuannya. Usaha menemukanmetode, pendekatan, dan model kajiannya yang baru dari waktu ke waktu terus berlangsung. Ilmu-ilmu bantu selain ilmu-ilmu dasar dalam menafsirkan Alquran, seperti hermeneutik, linguistik, semantik, dan semiotik semakin banyak digunakanoleh para mufassir Indonesia. Tulisan ini fokus membahas perkembangan studi tafsir masa klasik abad 16-19, kemerdekaan dan era reformasi dengan pendekatan sejarah intelektual di Indonesia, khususnya di Perguruan Tinggi Agama Islam Negeri. Corak tafsir era reformasi khususnya di kalangan akademis berkembang sesuai dengan semakin majunya ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi. Oleh sebab itu, kitab tafsir masa lalu memungkinkan untuk dikritisi dan diberi tafsir ulang oleh mufassir era reformasi sesuai dengan kebutuhan masa kini. Dalam hal ini, arah baru perkembangan tafsir pada era reformasi di Indonesia cenderung menggunakan metode tematik kolektif dan integratif multi dimensi.

Abstract

This study explores the dynamics of day and night through the integration of Qur’anic perspectives and scientific insights, with a particular focus on their implications in urban contexts. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method to examine in depth the harmony between science and religion, offering a holistic understanding of temporal rhythms that shape urban life. Data were collected from various secondary sources such as articles, books, and relevant journals. The findings indicate that recognizing both the physical and spiritual dimensions of day and night can contribute to enhancing social well-being, promoting sustainable urban living, and strengthening the balance between human productivity and community resilience.

Abstract

Domestic violence remains a persistent crisis in Indonesia, sustained not only by socio-economic pressures and gender inequality but also by religious discourses that normalize male authority within marriage. This article examines how Qur’anic interpretation, especially Surah An-Nisa verse 34, has been repeatedly used to justify gender hierarchy and, in some contexts, to legitimate coercion and violence against wives. The study employs a qualitative literature-based design that integrates critical hermeneutics, discourse analysis, and comparative exegesis, informed by feminist hermeneutics and decolonial theory. The findings show that dominant classical tafsir constructs qawwamun as inherent male leadership, reduces nushuz to a wife’s disobedience, and accepts daraba as regulated but permissible physical discipline. Together, these interpretations create an epistemic framework that renders domestic violence morally intelligible and socially governable through patriarchal household norms. In contrast, contemporary Indonesian reinterpretations advanced by Musdah Mulia and Faqihuddin Abdul Kodir reframe the verse through justice, reciprocity, and the protection of life and dignity, thereby rejecting violence as ethically incompatible with Qur’anic objectives. This article argues that such progressive tafsir constitutes a project of epistemic decolonization because it challenges the universalization of historically contingent patriarchal exegesis and repositions interpretive authority within context-sensitive ethical reasoning grounded in women’s lived realities. Theoretically, the study contributes to Qur’anic studies and gender justice scholarship by conceptualizing feminist tafsir as a decolonial intervention rather than a simple alternative reading, while also offering a faith-based epistemic foundation that strengthens legal advocacy and supports the implementation of Indonesia’s Domestic Violence Law.
