Abstract

Abstract Character Building can be done using any media. Mathematics is a lesson that can be used as a media. In this paper, we will discuss how character building uses the concept of problem solving in elementary school mathematics material. The method used is in the form of training with teacher and student participants on Tidung Island, the Thousand Islands. In the early stages, students are given an explanation of the concept of character and its relation to mathematics. Then they were given elementary level mathematic problem solving questions. During the working, the students is guided structurally to solve the poblems, and they allow to work both independently or in a group. They are also introduced which characters that can be build through solving mathematical problems, such as discipline, honesty, hard work, creativity, curiosity, independence, communicative, disciplined habits in reasoning. The students were also given a pre-test and post-test to explore the comprehension of the relationship between character and mathematics. regarding the concept of character. From the results of the training provided, students can follow directions in solving problem solving problems. They also provide motivation on how to build character using mathematic materials. The students were enthusiastic in participating in the training provided. Many actions are needed from this training as a form of control over the results of the training that has been given. It is hoped that teachers can be actively involved in character building through problem solving in mathematics at the elementary level.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine whether students' HOTS could be improved by using the Realistic Mathematics Education (RME) approach. More specifically, this research wants to know the effect of the RME approach on HOTS, it will be studied from students' learning motivation and will be controlled for students' Intelligence Quotient (IQ). The research design used was pretest-posttest control group design with covariables and the implementation of the research design was factorial design by level (2 X 3). The research samples were 110 twelfth grade students from two schools in East Jakarta in the 2022/2023 academic year. The results of the study showed that the increase in HOTS of students who were taught using the RME approach was higher than students who were taught with conventional learning after controlling for students' IQ. There are differences in HOTS abilities between students with high, medium, and low motivation after controlling for student IQ. There is an influence between the learning approach and learning motivation on HOTS abilities after controlling for students' Intelligence Quotient.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of Conventional Model and the Missouri Mathematics Project (MMP) learning Model with self-concept on mathematical problem- solving abilities of junior high school students. The design of this study was experimental and control group post-test design. The method used is the quasi-experimental method using treatment by level 2x2 design. The experimental class was given the MMP learning model treatment while the control class was treated with conventional model. The samples of this study were 48 seventh grade students. The instruments used were self-concept questionnaires and a test of mathematical problem-solving abilities.Technique of analysis used was two-ways ANOVA. The results of this study show that the MMP learning model has a syntax that is able to empower mathematical problem-solving abilities compared to conventional learning model. Students who have a positive self-concept or students who have a negative self-concept are more suitable to be treated with the MMP learning model than conventional learning model.
