Abstract

Anemia in pregnancy increases the risk of miscarriage, premature birth, low birth weight, bleeding after delivery. Anemia can be prevented by consuming a balanced nutritious diet and giving 90 tablets of Fe during pregnancy. The purpose of this study was to determine whether there was a correlation between knowledge and attitude with adherence to Fe tablet consumption in pregnant women with anemia in the third trimester in the working area of Merakurak Health Center. The research design used an observational analytic design with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique was simple random sampling. The population was 21 pregnant women with Third Trimester anemia in the working area of the Merakurak Health Center and a sample of 20 people. The contingency coefficient test using SPSS 21 obtained a value of 0.036 (p<0.05) meaning there was a correlation between knowledge and compliance and the contingency coefficient test is 0.264 (p>0.05) meaning there was no correlation between attitude and compliance. So it was suggested for more intensive socialization and supervision by families with a control card for Fe tablet consumption in pregnant women with anemia in the third trimester.

Abstract

Background: The high frequency of traffic accidents along the Pantura Tuban corridor underscores the urgent need for community preparedness to act as first responders before professional medical services arrive at the scene. Knowledge and self-confidence are widely recognized as key determinants of the community’s capacity to deliver appropriate first aid. Purpose: This study aimed to examine the relationship between levels of knowledge and self-confidence and the community’s capacity to perform first aid interventions. Methods: This study employed a quantitative approach with a correlational analytic design using a cross-sectional framework. A total of 155 respondents were selected through cluster sampling based on strategic areas along the Pantura corridor. Data were collected using a First Aid Knowledge Questionnaire, a Self-Efficacy Scale in Emergency Response, and an Observation Sheet for First Aid Simulation in Traffic Accident Victims, and were analyzed using the Spearman Rho test. Result: Spearman Rho analysis demonstrated a significant positive correlation between knowledge and first aid ability (r = 0.614; p < 0.001), as well as between self-confidence and first aid ability (r = 0.38; p = 0.01). Implication: Knowledge and self-confidence are primary determinants of community first aid competence. These findings highlight the importance of practice-based training models that integrate both technical and psychological components to develop responsive, resilient, and empowered community emergency preparedness systems. Abstract

Background : Traffic accidents along the North Coast Route (Pantura) in Tuban, East Java, remain a major public health concern, often leading to severe injuries and fatalities due to delays in early emergency response at the scene. Limited community capacity in providing first aid highlights the urgent need for effective training interventions. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of simulation-based emergency response training in improving knowledge, attitudes, and practical skills among adolescents living in high-risk areas. Methods :  A quantitative quasi-experimental study with a one-group pretest–posttest design was conducted among 155 adolescents aged 15–18 years selected using cluster random sampling across five high-risk areas. The intervention consisted of four training sessions delivered within one week, combining lectures, demonstrations, and scenario-based simulations covering CPR, bleeding control, and victim evacuation. Data were collected using validated questionnaires and observation checklists before and after the intervention. Statistical analysis was performed using paired-sample t-test with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results:  Knowledge scores increased from 56.3 to 82.7, attitude scores from 60.1 to 84.2, and practical skills scores from 48.5 to 79.9, all showing statistically significant improvements (p < 0.001). Conclusions:  Simulation-based emergency training significantly improves community capacity in emergency response, particularly in practical skills. This approach is recommended as a scalable strategy to strengthen early emergency management in accident-prone areas and reduce preventable morbidity and mortality.
