Abstract

This study explores high school students' perceptions and awareness of human rights violations (HRV) on social media. Using a mixed-method approach involving interviews and questionnaires with 100 students from five schools in Pekanbaru, the research reveals that the majority of students recognize various HRV issues such as hate speech, cyberbullying, discrimination, and privacy violations, and understand their impacts. Approximately 75% of students feel responsible to report HRV incidents, though some hesitate due to fear or perceived helplessness. While most students are familiar with the term HR, only 60% can accurately define protected rights like privacy and freedom from bullying. The average awareness score is 7.5 out of 10, influenced by socio-economic background and parental education. Findings indicate that 70% have witnessed hate speech, 55% have experienced or observed cyberbullying, and 60% acknowledge that spreading hoaxes infringes on the right to information. A significant majority (85%) agree that HR education should be integrated into school curricula. Despite high awareness levels, students' understanding of the boundaries and consequences of digital expression remains limited, highlighting the need for ongoing educational interventions and curriculum development in digital ethics and human rights. The study emphasizes the importance of continuous literacy programs and recommends further research with broader geographic scope and qualitative methods to deepen understanding.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe Bakar Tongkang tradition in Bagan Siapiapi, Riau, is not only a cultural asset, but also functions as a strategic tool in strengthening civic culture in the midst of a multi- ethnic indigenous community. This study uses a qualitative method with a literature study approach to analyze the role of tradition in fostering values of solidarity, public participation, and cross-ethnic cooperation. The results of the study reveal that this ritual has succeeded in building a shared identity and strengthening social ties through community involvement in the preparation to implementation stages, driven by local government policies. However, threats such as the dominance of commercial aspects, low involvement of the younger generation, and environmental issues have the potential to erode the sustainability of tradition. To overcome this, solutions such as incorporating traditional values into the education system, utilizing digital technology, and synergy between related parties are considered crucial. This study confirms that Bakar Tongkang can remain the foundation of civic culture by maintaining a balance between preservation and renewal, while ensuring its sustainability amidst global dynamics.

Abstract

The spice commodity trade has shaped the history of sea trade routes, which cannot be separated from Surabaya's important role in international relations. The Indonesian government has made the spice route a cultural priority for 2021 to gain world cultural heritage recognition. This research uses a mixed method with three approaches: phenomenological, cross-sectional, and quasi-experiment. The results of this research include: (a) Public understanding regarding the existence of the exoticism of the Surabaya spice route is still low; (b) Low knowledge regarding evidence of the spice route in Surabaya; and (c) There is a need for media that can promote the existence of the exoticism of the spice route. Based on these results, researchers offer promotional media in the form of the Arempaja board game to communicate the exotic existence of the Surabaya spice route to the broader community, especially the younger generation. In line with this solution, researchers utilized the connectionist theory by Edward L Thorndike, relating stimulus events (s) to responses (r). The contents of the Arempaja board game are taken from the results of in-depth interviews with several perspectives and direct visits to trail points on the Surabaya spice route. Based on the results of the effectiveness test, it was found that the Arempaja board game increased players' understanding of the Surabaya spice route. This research concludes that the Arempaja board game is suitable for promotional media or learning media regarding the exotic existence of the Surabaya spice route.
