Abstract

Abstract

The rejection of Shia movement in Indonesia is a new discourse. Shia presence in Indonesia has been since the early arrival of Islam. But why the Shia resistance movement emerging in the early 21st century? I argue that the Arab spring is the biggest trigger is related to the rise of anti-Shia movements in Indonesia. This paper will explore the relationship between the Arab spring and its influence on the anti-Shia in Indonesia, including the emergence of a national-level organization called ANNAS, or Aliansi Nasional Anti Syiah (Anti-Shia National Alliance), which was declared on August 20, 2014. It aims to increase public awareness to the issue of anti-Shia and avoid potential conflicts which cause separations and threaten national stability as happened in the Arab countries that are currently happening provocations by parties who have interests and hidden agendas on them. Indonesia as a country that refer to Pancasila should be prepared for the issues that triggered the disintegration of the nation.

Abstract

Living in harmony is required in a society which is characterized by cultural and religious diversity. It requires dialogue skills in various aspects of life during the day for allowing a sense of appreciation among humans and can be embedded within each other. Interreligious dialogue is a part of the disciplines covered in the field of religious studies. Indeed, the approach of interreligious studies is among the alternative mechanism in dealing with defamation of conflict between Islam and non-Islamic religions. This case needs to be dived so that alternative approaches are scattered in applying the dialogue between religions. Rumi (Mewlana Jalaluddin Rumi) is a famous name of Muslim mystics and great Sufi scholar with many adherents. He has written many books, especially in poetry. The way Rumi universally see religion and humankind through his poetry is exciting to be understood as a dialogue of heart. In order to reasoning, this paper will use the help of reading by Swidler and Pruitt. This paper uses literature review toward Rumi’s book entitled Mathnawī. From the findings and discussion, it can be concluded that mysticism introduced interreligious dialogue through poetry, and put heart or soul as the tool to perform interreligious dialogue.

Abstract

This article aims to examine the development, challenges, and dynamics of the JAGI Church concerning religious freedom in Indonesia. This research seeks to answer fundamental questions about the identity of the JAGI Church, its mission, its influence in Indonesia's social and religious realms, and the various challenges it faces in the form of discrimination. The research methodology applied to the JAGI Church study uses a qualitative descriptive approach. This research methodology also integrates a historical contextualization approach, which aims to provide a different understanding by placing these events in Indonesia's broader historical, social, and religious context. The results of this research demonstrate a deep understanding of the dynamics of religious freedom and the challenges faced by the JAGI Church in achieving official recognition, as well as describing their efforts in fighting for interreligious dialogue and creating an environment of mutual respect and tolerance. This article also links the JAGI Church case study with the thinking of religious freedom experts, thus providing new insight into the complexities of protecting and promoting religious freedom in the context of a multicultural society like Indonesia.
