Abstract

Today, various inter-faith communities have been born with massive efforts to build peace and harmony, starting at the national and regional levels under government and independent institutions. However, there is something important to note again: not many communities across Indonesia pay attention to the involvement of women as the main actors in the peace-building process. This study aims to analyse the involvement of women in interfaith communities as part of gender justice, especially in the city of Manado. The research process was carried out using descriptive and qualitative methods through library research. Data were obtained through various scientific literature, journals, and books, as well as supporting documents, to write information related to the research. From this research, it was found that there are still a few interfaith communities that accommodate women, but for the context of Manado City itself, this community has not yet been found. The availability of spaces such as interfaith communities for women is an effort to encourage women's active involvement in building peace based on their strategies and approaches.

Abstract

The reading of Scripture is susceptible to interpretation and can offer constructive values, but it can also lead to self-exclusion and destructive actions. Traditionally, the reading and interpretation of Scripture have been an internal activity within each religious community. However, in Yogyakarta, Scriptural Reasoning activities are being organized by the Young Interfaith Peacemaker Community (YIPC) Indonesia, involving participants from diverse religious and belief backgrounds. This research examines the response of Christian Youth engaged in Scriptural Reasoning activities, specifically focusing on how they create a welcoming space for the presence of the other. The research will employ an analytical descriptive method, with data gathered through participatory observation, interviews with respondents selected via purposive sampling, and the collection of relevant literature and documents. Respondents will include organizers of Scriptural Reasoning activities and Christian participants. The data will be analyzed using Marianne Moyaert’s concept of hermeneutic hospitality. This study highlights the significance of hermeneutic openness as an expression of hospitality within the Christian community and the importance of creating space for interreligious dialogue. Reading sacred texts can also help prevent conflicts of religious sentiments based on scriptural interpretation.

Abstract

Today issues related to human rights continue to be a serious problem, especially in the context of Indonesian society. This problem is often influenced by the attitude of majoritarianism which then has an impact on limiting the rights of others. This research then wants to see how the Minahasa indigenous people accept and provide living space for Muslim immigrants as part of fulfilling human rights. The existence of an attitude of acceptance carried out by the Minahasa indigenous people shows an acknowledgment of identity as fellow citizens. The research process will use a qualitative methodology, data will be obtained through participatory observation, collecting documents, journals, and interviews with informants. The informants were selected based on the intended sample. After collecting data, documents, and interview results, they will then be analyzed with the theory of hospitality from the perspective of Marianne Moyaert. The attitude of hospitality and acceptance from the Minahasa indigenous people can be an opportunity to fulfill everyone's rights based on local culture.

Abstract

Contemporary democracy often faces challenges in realizing inclusivity, particularly regarding minority groups’ access to the right to speak, participate, and make collective decisions. In this respect, this article examines inclusive democratic practices based on local values inherited from Minahasan ancestors, highlighting symbols and practices centered on the Watu Pinawetengan site. This research focuses on the Minahasan community’s acceptance of the Muslim immigrant community as a minority group that was vulnerable to being marginalized. Using descriptive qualitative methods and analysis based on Marianne Moyaert’s hospitality perspective, this article examines textual sources such as journal articles, books, and other relevant documents to understand how hospitality values are embedded in Minahasan social practices. The results show that deliberative practices at Watu Pinawetengan, where Minahasan ancestors divided territory dialogically and equally, symbolize a legacy of participatory and open democracy. These values continue to be lived out in inter-community relationships, including interactions with Muslims exiled to the region during the colonial period. This article argues that democracy can be constructed not only through formal institutions but also through the reinterpretation of local cultural heritage that upholds openness, equality, and hospitality across identities.
