Abstract

Deuteronomy 20 provides a significant biblical passage on the concept of war and its theological implications. This study aims to examine the meaning and message contained in Deuteronomy 20:12-13, exploring the historical, cultural, and theological context behind these verses. The research uses a descriptive qualitative approach, relying on a literature review and interviews with key informants to analyze the text. The findings suggest that these verses illustrate a complex divine approach to war, justice, and peace, offering valuable insights for modern Christian practice and understanding. The study also addresses common misinterpretations of these verses and proposes a clearer understanding of their relevance today.   Contribution: This study contributes to a deeper understanding of biblical interpretations related to war theology. It also provides insights into the implications of ancient teachings on modern Christian practices. Finally, it challenges misconceptions about the relationship between faith and violence in the context of historical biblical teachings.   Ulangan 20 memberikan suatu ayat Alkitab yang signifikan mengenai konsep perang dan implikasi teologisnya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memeriksa makna dan pesan yang terkandung dalam Ulangan 20:12-13, serta mengeksplorasi konteks historis, budaya, dan teologis di balik ayat-ayat tersebut. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif deskriptif, dengan mengandalkan tinjauan pustaka dan wawancara dengan narasumber utama untuk menganalisis teks tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ayat-ayat ini menggambarkan pendekatan ilahi yang kompleks terhadap perang, keadilan, dan perdamaian, serta memberikan wawasan berharga untuk praktik dan pemahaman Kristen masa kini. Penelitian ini juga mengaddress kesalahpahaman yang sering terjadi tentang ayat-ayat ini dan mengusulkan pemahaman yang lebih jelas mengenai relevansinya saat ini.   Kontribusi: Studi ini memberikan kontribusi untuk pemahaman yang lebih dalam tentang interpretasi Alkitab terkait teologi perang. Penelitian ini juga memberikan wawasan tentang implikasi ajaran kuno terhadap praktik Kristen modern. Terakhir, penelitian ini menantang kesalahpahaman tentang hubungan antara iman dan kekerasan dalam konteks ajaran Alkitab historis.

Abstract

This article discusses the relationship between science and spirituality, aiming to explore whether they can serve as a bridge in the search for truth or instead act as a barrier. The background of this study focuses on the historical tension that often arises between science, which prioritizes empirical evidence, and spirituality, which is more subjective and belief-based. The research adopts a qualitative approach using content analysis, reviewing various relevant literatures to find common ground between these two fields. The findings suggest that, despite the existing tension, science and spirituality have the potential to complement each other in understanding the universe, life, and the meaning of existence. The main contribution of this article is offering a more inclusive perspective on the interaction between science and spirituality, which could foster more constructive dialogue between the two. Artikel ini membahas hubungan antara sains dan spiritualitas, dengan tujuan untuk menggali apakah keduanya dapat menjadi jembatan dalam pencarian kebenaran atau justru berfungsi sebagai penghalang. Latar belakang penelitian ini berfokus pada ketegangan historis yang sering terjadi antara sains yang mengutamakan bukti empiris dan spiritualitas yang lebih bersifat subjektif dan keyakinan. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan metode analisis konten, yang mengkaji berbagai literatur terkait untuk menemukan titik temu antara kedua bidang ini. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa meskipun terdapat ketegangan, sains dan spiritualitas memiliki potensi untuk saling melengkapi dalam memahami alam semesta, kehidupan, dan makna eksistensi. Kontribusi utama artikel ini adalah menawarkan perspektif yang lebih inklusif mengenai interaksi antara sains dan spiritualitas, yang dapat membuka ruang untuk dialog yang lebih konstruktif antara keduanya.

Abstract

The Christian mission in Indonesia faces significant challenges amid the country's cultural, religious, and social diversity. With a majority Muslim population, it is crucial for the church to listen to both the voice of God and the voice of humanity in carrying out its mission. This study aims to explore how the Christian mission can be more effective by integrating these two aspects: listening to the voice of God through spiritual teaching and addressing the social needs of the community. The concept of a vulnerable mission, which prioritizes responsiveness to social and cultural challenges, forms the basis of this study. The research method used is a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving in-depth interviews with church leaders, missionaries, and community members, as well as document analysis to understand the application of both aspects in the diverse Indonesian context. The research findings indicate that successful Christian missions in Indonesia are those that can integrate spiritual aspects with social empowerment, thereby strengthening the church's relationship with the local community. The contribution of this research is the development of mission theory with a more inclusive and culturally sensitive approach. These findings are expected to provide insights for churches in Indonesia and similar countries in designing more adaptive, holistic, and relevant mission strategies.

Abstract

The community service activity aims to provide Basic Christian Counseling Training for Sunday School Teachers, carried out at GMIT Zoar Penkase Oeleta- Kupang City. This PkM is motivated by the awareness of Sunday school teachers about the importance of having counseling skills so that they are able to understand the situation of Sunday School children who are facing crises in their lives such as parental divorce, the death of an important person (for example, parents, siblings, grandparents or friends), serious illness, hospital admission, violence (physical, sexual, emotional), accidents, and trauma. This Community Service activity aims to provide understanding and basic counseling techniques to Sunday school teachers regarding the importance of sensitivity so that they can understand the problems faced by Sunday school children, with seminar and training methods. So, in the end this activity succeeded in educating Sunday school teachers with basic skills in counseling techniques, which they can then apply in mentoring and counseling activities for Sunday school children who are in problematic situations. Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada masyarakat bertujuan untuk memberikan Pelatihan Dasar Konseling Kristen bagi Guru Sekolah Minggu, dilaksanakan di GMIT Zoar Penkase Oeleta- Kota Kupang. PkM ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kesadaran guru sekolah minggu tentang pentingnya memiliki kemapuan konseling sehingga mampu memahami keadaan anak-anak Sekolah minggu yang sedang menghadapi krisis dalam kehidupannya seperti perceraian orang tua, kematian orang penting (misalnya, orang tua, saudara, kakek, nenek, atau teman), sakit keras, masuk rumah sakit, kekerasan (fisik, seksual, emosional), kecelakaan, dan trauma. Kegiatan Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pemahaman dan teknik konseling dasar kepada guru sekolah minggu terkait pentingnya kepekaan sehingga dapat memahami permasalahan yang dihadapi anak-anak sekolah minggu, dengan metode seminar dan pelatihan. Sehingga, pada akhirnya kegiatan ini berhasil mengedukasi guru sekolah minggu dengan keterampilan dasar dari teknik-teknik konseling, yang kemudian dapat mereka terapkan dalam kegiatan pendampingan dan konseling bagi anak-anak sekolah minggu yang berada dalam situasi problematik.
