Abstract

ABSTRACT This study discusses the application of the principle of service excellent in church services based on Colossians 3:23, with a qualitative descriptive approach through a literature review. Service excellent, which is commonly used in the business world, is adapted in the church context to improve the quality of service and congregational engagement. Colossians 3:23 is the theological foundation that encourages church servants to serve with all their hearts, as if for God, not for humans. Through literature analysis, including theological books, trusted scientific journals, and the Bible. This study identifies ways in which churches can implement the principles of excellent service, such as reliability, empathy, and attention to the needs of the congregation. The results of the study indicate that the application of service excellent contributes to increased satisfaction and congregational engagement and strengthens the church community. Abstract

Abstract

A harmonious relationship within the extended family, particularly between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law, is a common challenge in Christian marriages within the Indonesian cultural context. This study aims to examine the theological foundation of family harmony and to identify key factors that shape in-law relationships. A qualitative method was employed through literature review, interviews with five participants aged 60–72 who have grandchildren as mother in-law, and with five participants aged 30-40 as daughter in-law. The data were analyzed thematically and compared with biblical principles. The findings reveal that harmony within the extended family aligns with God's will and should be pursued through healthy communication, appropriate role distribution, and mutually agreed boundaries. The relationship between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law can be nurtured through empathy, acceptance, and the example of faith. Common sources of conflict include competition for attention, economic dependence, and a lack of independence within the nuclear family. These findings offer practical insights for Christian families in fostering extended family relationships that are in accordance with biblical teachings.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has become a major event that affects many aspects of life, including church life. The church needs to adapt itself to the changes that occur while responding to various situations around it. This situation brings two questions for the church to reflect on, namely whether the church has been paying attention to the concrete issues around it and whether the church has truly been present for others. This paper aims to show that the post-pandemic church needs to be a church that is faithfully present for others. For that, I will discuss the impact of the pandemic on the church. Then, I will explore Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s view of the church for others and James Davison Hunter’s ideas about faithful presence. Both of them are trying to show a church that wants to be present in the midst of society with various dynamics of life. Finally, I discuss these two views to construct an incarnational, relational, and missional post-pandemic ecclesiology.
